When To Take Print?

OK so I had a decent first flush and then my second was really good. So I decided to take a print. I let this huge shroom open its cap all the way until it was turning upwards. I cut off the cap and put it under a mason jar, etc. Over 24 hours later and still nothing. Now it's my third flush and I was gonna try and take a print again, but when I got home tonite, all the shrooms just grew like there was no tomorrow and some had already dropped some spores onto the perlite. How do I know when to cut the cap off to take my print?? These EQ's fruit really well! Thank you.

cut the cap when its flat...but not completley turned up...
sometimes if the humidity isn't right the cap wont drop spores.
next time, take a sterile damp washcloth, place your tinfoil or paper (whatever your printing on) onto the washcloth and your cap ontop of that, then place your jar over the cap..

Not exactly sure, but I think you might just need to take the print a little sooner. Try getting a cap right after the veil breaks... Don't take my word for it tho!

OK I just read that I should take a print right after the shroom drops some spores. So I'm gonna go up and do that now.

I find that 24 hours is not enough always. Like someone said earlier, humidity can have a large impact on the dropping of spores. I leave my caps under their cover (I use those CDR clear plastic containers that they come in when you buy like 50) for atleast 2-3 days. I've had to wait up to 5 days for a dark decent print. I just check in from time to time and make sure the conditions are correct. If nothing is dropping then modify the conditions. BUT BE STERILE!!! Good luck.

Actually, if the humidity is too high, spores don?t drop either.

Best time to take a print is mot imediately after the veil brakes, but a few hours later. You should already see some spores deposited on the veil.

Yeah, I find quite often I have different circumstances for different times taking a spore print. I have to slightly elevate my container, which covers the print to allow some humidity loss. I know what you talking about. I've had a print sit for 3 days and the container got foggy with water vapor and the spores never dropped.

The thing is, the caps I am using have already dropped spores, and it looked like a lot. Will they be able to drop anymore? I guess we will find out.

Well I just looked through the jar under the caps and what do you know? Nice and dark! I was able to fit 2 caps in there. I used the back of a photo, first wiped clean with alcohol. Although the jar I used was not wiped. Uh oh.....I'm sure the prints will be fine, what do ya'll think?

where in the world do you get microscope slides for making prints on???

ive tried hobby shops and medical suppliers(boy did they look at me funny..)
