Pop!

like an airbubble rising up to the surface of the water.

once it reaches the top, it pops and disappears.

but it does not actually disappear from existence;

what was once an airbubble is now the air and the wind. :mushroom2:

and so the wind begins its aerial dance across the oceans, deserts, the green and the gray lands. :hypno:

the wind travels like a fractal tree, through the forests, and through the streets,

into caves, and into homes,

where by chance it is eventually inhaled by a pair of lungs and exhaled as see oh two.

now, it is free food for the trees to eat. :earth:

this is the airbubble's destiny. :shineon:

trees are interesting lifeforms.

they eat, drink, hibernate and perhaps even sleep like we do. all organisms need their rest periods. why exclude those members who we cannot easily relate to. this short-sightedness does not make them any more or less alive.

plus..

concerning something that is alive.. must it not also have a processing unit, a hardware, a brain, so that it can even be capable of executing its biological procedures such as eating, drinking, and sleeping? where does consciousness fit into all this?

it would be silly not to consider this perspective.

so would i think if i were a tree. :mushroom2:

having studied 6 credits of botany, I can assure you the tree brain doesn't exist. All of the processing units you describe just pieces of cellular hardware (RNA, proteins), and DNA to make more hardware. It needs no script. It runs entirely by thermodynamic principles.

earth doesn't need to be conscious to tell it to keep falling around the sun, you see. which is not to say there isn't a consciousness somewhere...but it isn't needed for its performance

edit:
to be more specific, plants drink entirely through what are called water potential gradients. water flows from high concentration to low concentration (with many details in between such as how hard the soil sticks the water, how wet the air is, etc). the root is porous and water diffuses in without ever entering a cell, then is forced into a membrane in the vascular column. once in there, the cellular machinery controls it and won't just let it go. because the air outside has less than 100% RH, and the plant is literally connected to the air at the top from its roots at the bottom, water flows up. all thermodynamic.

nutrients for eating are dissolved in the water captured for drinking. also, there's that whole photosynth thing. all by diffusion. (and likely an association with mycorrhizae, which about 75% of plants have).

it's just that it has the tools...so specific. it doesn't need a guide. a set of dominos doesn't need a guide to fall down.
