CoCo Coir and BRF

I've completely exhausted my source of vermiculite, its extremely hard to find where I am and I just havn't been able to get a hold of any lately.

Everywhere I go, same answer: OUT OF STOCK

Obviously I realize I have the option of ordering some online if I'm having such a huge problem finding it but my question is this:

Would Coir/BRF/Coffie mixture be sufficient to spawn with? Has anyone tried this if so what were the conclusions you came to about such a mix.?

I spawn collinized rye to a coir/coffee mix and have great results,as a matter of fact I dont even see myself going back to poo anytime soon just because the coir is so easy and user friendly,also it sure is easier to come by coir where I live than horse poo

Not to hijack, but what ratio of grain to coir would you all reccomend? What do you use?

It depends how fast you want your bulk to be cased and how many trays you feel safe to make. Personally I'm using like 1:3(popcorn:coir) ratio and I think it's safe without fearing contams to take place and also fast enough for me to lay casing after 5 days. I love coir, it works great and it's much more convenient to store than poo.

i have found that about 1:3 is the perfect amount.

but, are you trying to substitute coir for verm in Cakes?

I would say no.

*take a fully grown cake and spawn it to coir. That's great!

2-3 qts of rye for every half brick of coir will fill a 16 qt sweater box to a nice 3-4 inch depth:thumbup:
