Yes those are live plants.

What size tanks are those boO? You damn europeans have access to all the good stuff- rimless tanks, superior lighting, better CO2 diffusers, better substrates, better rocks. I'm jealous. You even have crystal red shrimp and those rare rasboras.

Sooo jealous. Excellent aquascaping work.

Have you considered using Hemianthus callitrichoides instead of Glossstigma in that first tank? From my experience, glosso grow WAY too fast and is a bitch to keep in line in a high tech tank.

The thing about planted tanks is that people who are really into them view them as a living art form. That artform tends to be minimalistic. Most award winning tanks don't use more than 5 species of plants and usually have 1 or 2 species of fish. The fish are supposed to compliment the plants.

My tank was just a random mess of plants that looked decent. I had a million fish too. I could never get in the right mindset to do a japanese style aquascaped tank. If you want to see some amazing tanks, look at Takashi Amano's tanks. He's considered a god when it comes to planted tanks.

Well I had a good tank setup before too, and I looked at as an art form as well. but I incorporated about 10 species of fish and 3-4 different plants, also I had a variety of rocks and gravel. It wasn't over crowded either, I just like to see the community of different fish and how they interact, yes some do get killed but usually everything starts balancing out. To me that tank looks too minimal, I can easily seeing adding about 10 more fish in their, also maybe take that big rock out, or lean it on the side and create a cave with it. And throw in smooth agates and some red lava rocks is some suggestions. I do like the potential though, as with the fish, plants and overall setup

Is there a definitive online resource for a planted aquarium?

Or any good sites?

hey all thanks for your reply! nice to see there are some planted tank enthusiasts here

i was going to originally start a saltwater nano tank and if you check a couple of old threads here, you'll see that i've been talking about it for a while. then i saw takashi amano's planted tanks and fell in love with the "minimalist" look. the first planted tank i saw was a glossostigma tank, hence why my 54 litre just has glosso, rocks and sand.

the smaller tank i'm making it into a shrimp only tank, mainly amanos, tiger shrimps and "carrot nosed" shrimps. I'm still waiting for the tiger and carrot nosed shrimps to arrive from Germany...i hope they make it actually, it's been -11C here and i'm afraid they'll die despite being in warm packaging :frown:

originally i wanted to make the 13.5 litre tank with a foreground of HC (this is to you gumby), but, it's been pretty fucking hard for me to find HC around my neck of the woods. I special ordered HC about 2 months ago from an LFS but they didn't have it this shimpment. the only plants i'm planning on having in the smaller tank are dwarf hairgrass, java moss and the marimo balls (since the shrimps like algae). plus, i'm afraid with only 11w of light hc won't do too well...but...hehe...i went on a spending spree and bought another co2 tank

gumby: all the equipment i bought was actually ADA (aqua design amano) from the US and UK. it's bloody hard AND expensive to get that shit here. Actually, i think i'm one of the only people to have more than 80% ADA equipment in this country. the other person i know, who breeds CRS, just has aqua soil in her tank.

For the 54l tank, it's mainly just going to be a 20-30 school of the same rasboras...they aren't rare here at all..actually they're pretty cheap 2.50 each. i WANT to get galaxy rasboras in a school, but at 8.50 a pop..fuck that. I heard from the lady at my LFS that they have successfully bred galaxy rasboras easily so the price will go down...let's see.

I'm also going to put about 14 CRS into the 54l...my friend through IRC who breeds them is bringing over some grade S shrimps. Im so excited lol. I do plan on breeding CRS.

I can go on and on and on about aquascaping (you have the right word banez ) but then i'll start to bore you guys.

ganja: long time no see!!! how are you doing??? i really like your tank! i see cryptos

for those of you who might be interested in planted tank as an artform, then there are plenty of sites wher eyou can check out images and learn more about keeping a tank. http://www.plantedtank.net and http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com are the best.

some pics from planting:

the 13.5 litre was established and i did the aquascaping yesterday, same with the 54 litre. reason why i have livestock in the 13.5 litre is cause well...it's already been cycled.

54 litre i have to wait till the nitrite and ammonia go down to 0 so i can add livestock...so right now those 2 crs and 4 rasboras will be temporarily in the 13.5 litre till the 54 litre is ready
