Yeah I see what you mean by majestic...they have that old fire and industry feel to them, reeking of Andrew Carnegie and all...I don't know the layout of the city well enough to tell you where I went. I saw a cemetery, went for lots of walks, mainly stayed around the CMU campus...went to a headshop that was up a flight of stairs and pretty large, lots of tapestries inside...

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.

make sure you have really good beer on tap, and a good variety too

the liquor/beer/drink selection/prices/specials are almost as important as the decor and theme of the bar

good luck, whatever path you travel down

The gun laws aren't bad.  I have a concealed carry permit.  When it comes to concealed carry permits, PA is a "shall issue state", meaning that they have to give it to you if you have nothing on your record that bars you from getting it.

Pa's concealed carry permit is only valid in PA though.  Some states have cross compatibility with other states (I think Arizona's permit is legal in Kentucky for example).

Yeah, you have to pay attention to that. I know someone that had a permit in this state and got arrested for carrying a weapon in the next state over because our permit is not valid there. Their lawyer got it thrown out, but it cost a lot of money to do it.

It sounds like you hung around Oakland. The store that you went to sounds like "Telaropa". I think they closed.

Oakland is a cool area, but there are other neighborhoods to check out. The Southside is very hip and has bars and weird stores. Shadyside has a bunch of preppy stores and upscale bars. Bloomfield has a lot of Italian and Thai restaurants. The Strip District has a bunch of wholesale food places, dance clubs, and weird stores.

If you come back to Pittsburgh, I'll take you on a badass tour.

Did you go see the Carnegie? The Andy Warhol Museum?

P.S. Also keep in mind that you are coming from the biggest and most culture filled city in the country (if not the world). Pittsburgh cannot possibly compete with NYC when it comes to the amount of stuff that there is to do.

Yeah...I was planning on it being a "beer connissuer" kind of bar. There would be billions of beers to choose from. I of course would have liquor too.

I think automatic weapons are federally regulated. If you have an FFL (Federal Firearms license) you can have them. I don't think state law has anything to do with that. I know people in PA who have their FFL's and who have AK's and shit.

Well...I am not terribly informed on the process. I have heard people say that they barely give them out anymore (FFL's). I have heard people say that local sheriffs can bar you from getting it if they feel like it. I have heard that it is cheap. I have heard that it is expensive. I have heard all kinds of shit. You would need to do some investigating. But, PA is not like Washington DC or anything (where handguns are illegal). There are a lot of hunting and pro-gun people here so gun laws aren't terribly restrictive (thank God...because I'm a gun nut too).

There is a bar in Indianapolis called Chumley's. You may want to check it out, it sounds a lot like the bar you want. It has at least 40-50 different beers on tap. Of course most of the beers are owned by big beverage companies, but they have smaller beers in bottles. They have pool tables, a big screen TV, a glassed in patio and a stage upstairs for bands. I've only been there on an afternoon, the patio has mildly occupied and a few sat at the bar and a few played games, but I was told that at night, regardless of what day, you have to fight your way to the bar.

Chumley's is pretty good. Broad Ripple is just awesome period.
