Why do we have to be faithful to our spouses?
    #6448990 -

Seems like it would be much more fun if we just all fucked each other.

Hi how's it going, wanna kick Heroin basically painlessly on your own, in your own house, without any government "help" ,or the "help" of a crazy condescending, judgmental medical doctor? Read this:

No problem with polyamory as long as all parties are informed, otherwise you get unnecessary backstabbing and gameplaying.

I'm a fan of monogamy myself.

I'm currently a fan. However I don't believe it's truly a natural state.

I'm still not convinced it's not just something else the Republicans dreamed up long ago.

I don't think the variety and fluctuations inherent in human consciousness allow for any sort of partnership state to be "natural" - whatever works for you.

It's not natural. That is why you have things like the 7 Year Itch in monogamous relationships. The only thing more counterproductive to evolutionary variety than monogamy is not reproducing altogether.

Sounds Republican to me. I wonder if the wifey will buy into this theory...

Somehow I doubt it.

If it's consensual, sure. But it's unfair to go around behind people's backs, especially considering the amount of STDs out there, and the risk of getting someone else pregnant. I'd be pissed if a girl slept around behind my back and ended up giving me something she picked up along the way.

You're right, it's not natural to stick to one person, but I think that's because back in the day (eons ago) we had to spread our seed as far and wide as possible. Nowadays we just screw for fun. No problem there, but we don't need to shag everyone now because we don't have to ensure our species will continue and thrive.

Then again, I'm so paranoid about STDs and all that crap, so I personally couldn't go out and sleep with lots of women I barely know. That and I'm a complete tard at talking to women  :smirk:

I agree, I'll fuck your wife, but stay away from my GF

Its a choice, its not natural, but if the person is really cool in other ways, you stay with them, or if you have no better prospects, your "stuck". But when it gets to that point its really sad. And anything but love.

Monogamy seems like tossing a winning powerball ticket away

Life is just weird

I think you're confusing polyamory and cheating. They are two entirely different things.

Although polygamy is the way it’s worked in the past, in this age we have perhaps one enemy besides ourselves: disease

I would advise the careless members of our species to not infect us all with their promiscuity. The more these diseases spread, the greater chance for the disease to evolve a more effective mode of transportation; perhaps an airborne strain.

How would you all like to experience another great plague?

Good point, same tree of thought though I think.

Not even remotely. One is based on trust (more than there is in most monogamous relationships even, at least in that area) and the other is specifically about dishonesty and betrayal. Polyamory and cheating are diametrically opposed.

Because you vow that you will. The whole point of marriage is to swear your love and devotion to the woman you're marrying. If you're not down with monogamy, that's totally cool.....just don't get married. Marriage isn't for everyone.

Both are based on the initial presumption that it's somehow wrong to screw someone else. That makes 'em same tree.

It's definitely for me, and no I'm not sharing her anytime soon, but I just have to wonder if this behavior is genetically coded stuff, like an instinct, or simply a learned behavior.

I'm actually hoping for one. Hopefully the Great Airborne Herpes Plague of 2008. There will be awesome media hype.

You know most of these "diseases" , and all of these newer and nastier flus are probably just escaping from the labs where they were created.

AIDS was Ronald Reagan's masterpiece!
