???question???

Hey everyone thanks for taking the time to answer my question!!! I innoculated 12 jars and all of them have colonized to about 90-95%, except a quarter to dime size on the bottom. Has anyone ever dunked at this stage by putting water directly into the jars? Would it be better to just wait it out? Please if you havn't tried it don't guess and say yes..
p.s. on a side note. I had only enough spore solution to innoculate 2 holes on the last jar, and that last jar has colonized at the same speed and even better then the ones with 4 holes innoc.. Pretty spiffy..... Anyone ever noticed this?

I haven't done it. But i will tell you that doing so would open you up to contams. Please, wait for it to finish colonizing.

Wait for it. If it never finishes, birth the cake and cut out the uncolonized part.

Ok... So wait a little longer!! They have slowed growth and it seems like that last little bit on the bottom is taking forever. It's still growing but slowly.
So it's ok to dunk after the cake is fully covered white? Do I have to wait for the inside to colonize awhile? Or will it be safe that the outside is all done and no contams can get in..?

I know patience is of virtue... Thanks for reminding me... I think of that as I watch my indica swell until It looks to burst, but I know one more week will make the difference..
I think my temps were low 73 degrees and that prob has slowed the process of growth.. I turned off the air and am sweatin but the temp is now around 80 so that is better...LOL... The things I do for the sake of inner light! hehehe...
If all goes well I should have 12 cakes birthed in the next few days... I am still wondering about adding water to the jars? Someone told me about dunking right in the jars. Anyone done this?? how is the result?

why do you have air flow in your incubator????? its pointless (not razing but you dont need it)
and dunking in jars yes i do as soon as they are fully colonized i open them scrape off the layer of verm dump cake on lid clean jars use alcohol pad to stril in side real quick wait for alcohol to evaporate put cake back in jar add disstilled water up to top of jar put in fridge to cold shock as well let them sit for 12hrs open them dump out excess water put in terr. add light for 12 hrs a day.
hope this answered your ?'s

Thanks Stainblue.... I don't have airflow in the incubator. I meant the AC in the house. hehe.. Thanks for the info about dunking. I will calm down now and let nature take it's course. Today the cakes are almost done. The higher temps seemed to help.
My terrarium is clear plastic all the way around except the lid. Do you think I need to put plexiglass on top? Or is the clear sides enough to let light in? What temp should the terrarium be kept for optimum conditions?

you can also flip the jars over to get the spots on the bottom that havent colonized... that helps too.

Indicaz....Cool name My indi just showed male today. The little bastard, was a damn nice plant. Cool ava too!!! Thanks man, and that is funny that you mentioned it. I actually just did that before checking my thread. I turned them over and hit the bottom to leave a small amount of space to allow for colonization.
On one of my jars I noticed what looks like a white stalk appearing near the top by the vermiculite. Pressing against the glass and growing. Is this a pin or just the mycelium...?

>>>My terrarium is clear plastic all the way around except the lid. Do you think I need to put plexiglass on top? Or is the clear sides enough to let light in? What temp should the terrarium be kept for optimum conditions?<<<
i would cut the top out of the lid simply for the fact that the light needs to come from the top because the mushies grow towards the light it would just make it a lot more simple for them to know where the light is coming from i dont use plexi glass on mine i cut the top out, there is usually and intdention of some sort on it just follow that with a razor if there is no indention then just cut around the lid making sure to leave 3 or so inches around the parimeter of the lid put silicone around the hole on the inside side of the lid take reynolds wrap, place on there and tape the side excess to the outer sides of the lid so i dries tight and there are no wrinkles in the wrap make sure that all the wrap is in contact with the silicone let it sit over night and just cut of the excess in the morning
it's a lot cheaper then plexi glass as wel and i keep my terr between 76-82 through out the process colonization of casing, pinning and fruiting. i have no comlpaints what so ever
does this help???

Stain ..... That makes perfect sense to me. ok so Im kinda high so pardon my babble.. But wont plants grow up against gravity even in the dark? I thought light just induced pinning? And really wouldn't matter where exactly it's coming from. I will prob follow your advice none the less but does anyone have input regarding that thought?

i dont know for sure but i believe all living things that need some type of soil need light like grass, trees, flowers, indoor plants, fungi etc.... one example of this is overlay with casings the way if grass is always in the shade it wont grow even though there is light all around---- dont know if youve ever been walking in the woods or some thing but there in hardly any grass because of lack of direct light---- and if it was already growing and you cut the light it will die i believe simply for the fact that i has nothing to reach for(figuretivly speaking)
thats why plants dont grow in caves and what not, only alge
like i said i have no idea thats just what i thought i could be very wrong i relly didnt pay atten. in biology (lol)

Stain Yeah I see what your saying, but for some reason I think that plants that are clorophyl based prob need direct light above them because they use the light to produce all it's energy. Shrooms on the other hand are phototrophic sp? and from what I understand need light to initiate pinning and will start to grow. I will do some research and see what I come up with. It's pretty interesting actually... If anyone knows anything about this, please give your 2 cents..
I birthed two cakes tonight.. The one that looked like a stalk of white growing near the vermiculite was a small shroom. After scraping the Verm away there she was... A small pin with a dark head. Wow.. pretty awesome!!! It is already growing.. I hope the rest of the cakes do the same.. wish me luck..

Mushrooms will grow towards the light. In The Mushroom Cultivator page 153 figure 142 shows " characteristic phototropic responce of psilocybe cubensis toward light" freaky.

Also at Lowes or HomeDepot you can find very thin plexiglass and comes in small sheets that real cheap and you can cut it with a glass scorer (neater) or a razor knife (not as neat) cut out lid and silicon as StainBlue did but i also drilled through the plexi and lid and nut and bolted together this may be better for long term use

Even better, would be to stop by salavation army, they always have glass sheets laying around, yard sales, Goodwill, are also good places to look for glass sheets.
