I would hope it came with a manual, but basically you just aim it at the celestial body you want to view and focus the lens.

Or are you asking how you assemble the telescope?

If you just bought it, it should have a booklet or manual with it that will explain how to use it. Try giving that a look-through.

If it has a finder scope you'll probably need to calibrate that. Use something on the horizon like a tree or streetlamp. After that point it to something in the sky you wanna look at and focus in.
What kind of scope is it and what kinda eyepieces are you using?

I've got a program you could use but no way of sending it. It's 19 MB but I'm not sure if you can find it online somewhere. It's called Stellarium. My dad burned it for me and it's supposed to have real time planet and constellation positions for your location. I have a couple other programs like it but they're older and take up whole CD's.

You need to familiarize yourself with the nightsky by looking at star charts, learning your constellations and the stars inside them, and where the various planets and other objects travel thru they sky depending on the season, your location, and the time of day.

Or you could go to this forum: http://www.bautforum.com/ not read any FAQs or tips and just ask all the newbie questions you can in their advanced or specialized forums. I bet they love that.

I have a program called starfinder. I can't find it anywhere now using google but in my files its written as 'starfinder002'.

All you do with that is install it,,, put in your latitude and it tells you where everything is.

You can show up constellations and deep space galaxys by going into the menu,,, it's really simple to use though.

It's great if ya can find it, lol.

Good to see another stargazer. I have owned a telescope for over 30 years. They can be a great pastime if you follow some simple rules.

First, align your telescopes finder scope. Go out in the day time and point your scope at something at least 100 yards away (street sign or light works well). Get it centered in your telescopes eyepiece. Then play around with the finder scope until the cross hairs are centered on what your scope is looking at. This will take several tries since every time you make an adjustment to the finder scope you move the telescope a little. This is kinda like sighting in a gun. It is very important in hitting your target.

Once you can point you scope at any thing you want, and have it pretty much centered in you field of view (with your lowest power lens, normally a 25mm or 30mm lens) then you are ready to take it out at night.

Now your going to need some kind of sky chart to begin with. Many web sites will have a decent rendering of some of the more popular sky treasures. With winter upon us, the best thing to find would be the Great Orion Nebula, in the southern sky. It is one of the easiest to find and probably one of the most impressive to see. If you go out early enough you could find the Andromeda galaxy in the north western sky. It is the farthest thing the naked eye can see at almost 3 million light years away.

If you go out late enough, Saturn is at the foot of Leo in the eastern sky around midnight.

Having a decent pair of binoculars is helpful also. I use a 10x50 pair for helping me find those faint fuzzies that are sometimes hard to find.

Depending on the type of mount you have you may be able to align your scope up with the north star and have it track the sky.

PM me if you want to know more.

Definitely check out the Andromeda galaxy. I dont remember the details of how to find it, as I havnt been stargazing in a good few years, but I know it's in the constellation Andromeda.

The pleadies (sp?) are also pretty cool. Along with Orion.

If you end up getting into it a lot, you should ditch the finder-scope that came with it, as they're typically shitty. There are much better ones you can buy and attach to it. Otherwise you'll probably end up having to zero your finder scope every time you take out your telescope.

Is it a refractor or a reflector? Reflectors have a mirror on the bottom and the eyepiece is on the side. Reflectors are basically a tube with lenses in it and the eyepiece is on the end (like Galileo's). There are pros and cons to each type, but I think the reflectors need some calibrating to make them perform the best.

My uncle got really into stargazing, so I'm not too much for details. I have a Bushnell refractor that I havnt looked through in years.

IF you get into it, there are a lot of options to upgrade to from your basic packages. Better lenses, attachments, etc.

Got it !

This will show you every planet, star, galaxy, constellation in an easy north/east/south/west layout..
It shows you whatever's in the sky at the time when you click on it.

You just need to learn your latitude.. Google your home town/latitude and it's easy to find..

This is the mirror to the download incase that doesn't work,,, there's a load of other stuff there i haven't looked at,, some of it could be useful.

Edit: it's starfinder you want,,, basic but more than enough .
