while were on the topic of government deception, how many nukes do you think that we REALLY have?

flash back to the nuclear pissing contest that was the cold war.

Think for a moment, have you ever played poker? have you ever bluffed a hand, went all in with a pair of 2's?

According to wikipedia these are some of the relevant numbers regarding the usa nuclear stockpile and history

the concept of Mutually assured destruction (MAD) is clearly based on the fact that there would be no winner in a nuclear exchange between the usa and rusia. Both sides would be destroyed as they were equal powers.

Now, you tell me....

If either side was faced with the possibilty of no longer being able to equally retailiate against the opposing country, dont you think that they would at the very least lie, fib, or otherwise bluff to save themselves?

I for one do, and propose the concept that the above listed numbers are embelished, to what extent i do not know.

i thought 10% of are arsenal was enough to ensure world wide nuclear winter. So the other 90% was just 'icing on the cake'.

The real question is how much do we spend to upkeep these weapons, and under what circumstance would we actually use them?


Im guessing a lot of money, and we will never use them, unless someone else launches all there ICBM at us.

Even if a terrorist set off a nuke in the heart of one of our cities, i still dont see us nuking someone. Terrorist have no nation.

depends, are you just talking about having some guy that comes in and polishes the rocket, or the full blown staff and supplies

10,00 from what I hear, but not all those are active warheads. We here in Canada, have none, and not to be corny, I am REALLY proud of that, we dont need them, and we dont want them, I would love to see a Canadian politician advocate arming Canada with nukes,  talk about political suicide :lol: :smile:

Plenty of scenarios. You should remember that the nukes are intended to defend the US Government, not its people.

The US is developing nuclear "bunker busters" and a few years ago the Senate discussed actual deployment of nuclear weapons in future conflicts. There are many uses for nuclear weapons that are strategically interesting, such as the possibility of a high altitude nuclear explosion to destroy all electronics in a large region.

Use of a nuclear weapon also has a great psychological effect which can be considered useful.

I think the chance that the US will launch a nuclear first strike against some poor backwater country or terrorist camp is about as great as the chance they won't use the Bomb.

The US Gov't is becoming increasingly rabid. Unless you, the people, turn the tide nukes will eventually be used.

Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction, and yet the nation of Iraq is completely torn to shreds by the US Gov't who still are convinced that God's Holy Truth is with them.

US Government sucks. Unfortunately it doesn't listen to its people anymore, and gets around that through various forms of corruption. Look at all the people Bush put into office without even having to go through the senate or the house!

omg, the us government is the bad guy?!!?!!?? what a shocker :shocked: wait, no....

its past the point of no return,
we as a society are far to comfortable to actually revolt and change anyhing

the power we are told we have is a vote between 2 corrupt political parties.

and yes, EMP's are very interesting, a nice side effect of nuclear weapons. However, they have discovered how to create EMP blasts without nuclear ordinance.

it was covered indepth by popular mechanics or science (i dont recall which...) but it was a good article, theres also a post about it in sci and tech somewhere...

But I don't think there is a non-nuclear way to do this to thousands of square miles in one go.

interesting question here....

how large is the EMP blast from a nuclear weapon?

is it directly proportional to the yeild of the blast? or are certain types of detonations yeild larger emp's?

funny thing. a while back i read my cellphone insurance agreement. Damage from electromagnetic pulses, specifically those that derive from nuclear blasts, are not covered.... lol... what a world.

HALO works on a reasonably large area, plus it's portable, can be flown in a plane
over a target area and will eliminate communications of any sort without
destroying infrastructure... strategicly it's th more viable option
