it tastes like chicken too, shave off the pores on the underside as they usually have a lot of bugs... then freeze what you don't plan on using... what you do plan on using sautee with butter salt and garlic powder, till it looks done then drizzle in some bbq and sautee maybe 1 more minute.. good ass bbq chicken...

Too be honest the best thing Ive found to do with this fungus is make a chicken soup, without chicken. :P this fung is GREAT!~ in soup

i ate some of these 4 or 5 times and was fine, but my family ate it and they all puked. how could they all be allergic to it and not me?

i finaly got an upset stomach this morning from it, didnt vomit though.

they all said it burned when it came up, which sounds like the acid from eucalyptus, however it wasnt growing on one.

any ideas?

Hmm, not sure. I've been eating it for ages and have never even had stomach upset. How much did your family eat, how was it cooked, do you know for sure what exact tree it was growing on? Also, was it the yellow pore or white pore version? You sure it wasn't an over aged specimen?

sometimes people are exposed to things that are in certain mushrooms for the first times, so naturally they get sick, my neighbor gets sick from morals everytime, she cant eat em, but loves picking and she has no problems with any other fungus, thats why its always a really good when introducing wild fung too someone that hasnt had it before to just eat alil and wait 15 minutes too see how they react.

Actually, you should generally wait longer than 15 minutes. I'd say wait 12-24 hrs at least, when trying certain edibles.

yeah my mom ate it and vomitted 10 mins later. my dad ate some and vomitted 3 hrs later. i didnt vomit but my stomach was not handling it well...

i really have no idea what the spore color was, i thought there was only one kind of chicken?
my parents fried theres in olive oil, i wasnt there to watch so i dont know. i fried mine in olive oil, garlic, and a dash of soy sauce, ate it over rice each time.

it was a rather large specimen, though it didnt look overgrown, or smell bad. some parts of the pores turned greyish, i cut those parts off.

It sounds if you guys got food poisoning from them. I personally would've dried them well for long term storage and then re-hydrated for cooking. Sorry man. That really stinks.

I meant the actual pore surface color. I'm pretty sure they both have the same colored spores. There is a yellow pore surface version which grows straight on wood, and a white pore surface one that grows near the base of trees. I have photos of both kinds in my gallery.

Had a dream last night where I found some massive chicken of the woods patches. These things looked like mutants. They were so big that it was unbelievable. This thread must have triggered it somehow :grin:
