What do you really want in a significant other?
    #6345139 -

Every week there are several threads that detail people complaining about their current boyfriend/girlfriend, former boyfriend/girlfriend, or the whole romance game in general. There are a lot of cynical people on this site when it comes to relationships.

So, what do you want when it comes to a relationship or dating? What causes you to take an interest in a person? What causes you to wish a person would go away? Tell us what your likes, dislikes, and desires are. Think about it carefully and be honest. I'm really curious to see your guy's answers.

well firstly, If Im honest, its their aesthetics.
Once they've passed the aesthetics test, then its on to intelligence.
Once I've established that they aren't common  -dumb-as-fuck-sluts its onto personality.

I have a fetish for hippy type women, but unfortunately they only exist in communes / acid trips. :frown:

I like hipster girls.

and among them,
I like to date the honest
and open-to-new-things hipster girls.
and the ones that are not controlling
and co-dependent bitches.

I like to have fun
not feel like I am married with my balls
in a mason jar.

characteristics I look for: style, good body, honesty, humor, likes to drink, good taste in music/food/literature, no baggage.

add a deep, mutual trust to that list and that's my ideal woman.  all my girlfriends were sex and some puppy love but i never felt a trust or a pull that made me want to live with them forever

Here are my significant other requirements:

1. I have to get "the feeling". "The feeling" could best be described as, "Wow. This person is amazing, I can't keep my eyes off her, and I want to spend a bunch of time with her".
2. I have to find the girl somewhat physically attractive.
3. We have to be compatible. The conversation has to flow, we need to make each other laugh, and we have to enjoy each other's company.
4. The girl can't be a spoiled little princess. I've known too many girls who couldn't take care of themselves because mommy and daddy did everything for them. These girls are exasperating and they don't have an ounce of maturity.
5. The girl can't be fickle. I don't want to deal with somebody who goes through relationships like I do with changing my socks.
6. The girl can't be bitchy, manipulative, possessive, or psycho. That shit sucks to deal with.
7. We have to have the same basic set of morals and life outlook.
8. I want her to be devoted to me, but not so devoted that she is clingy. She has to have her own life.

That's actually a really good answer.  Maybe true love is more spontaneous than what a contrived list can detail.

I like my petite asian, with nice cures, with a fair amount american culture, somewhat shy and submissive

I want her to be sexual, meaning she wants to fuck all the time, but she still has self-respect.

But any semi hot, intelligent girl will do I guess, not trying to be too picky

In my experience, I find things usually go downhill because of these common factors:

1. Things just get dull.  Spontaneity, freshness and excitement are key.  Especially when younger(like the average age of the shroomery user).  When we are younger, even if we think we'll enjoy just sitting around with the same person everyday talking, watching tv or whatever, it doesn't last.  We crave, especially at our age, new things and like I said, spontaneity.

Want a relationship to work?  Don't let it become the same ol same ol routine everyday.  Keep it fresh and most of all...fun.

2. Honesty/Trust.  We all want to know that the other is being honest and in my opinion, brutally honest, even if it hurts.  We want trust in their advice and support, as well.  If things aren't upfront, it's not gonna work.

3. Personal self confidence.  This ties into number 2 in some ways.  You are really going to frustrate this lover if you don't give them a chance to trust.  There are too many people out there with no self confidence in themselves.  If you are constantly worried about her/him cheating, checking others out, etc...you are not giving them a chance.  You, or they, are so insecure...it really puts a weight on the relationship.

so..

Quote:
So, what do you want when it comes to a relationship or dating?

I think dating should be fun, exciting and fresh.  The sex should be passionate some nights, playful the next.  I want someone I am physically attracted to, which is different for everyone.  To me, PHYSICAL attraction is 80-90% physical looks, but with a shitload of personality, it can truly show on the skin and make them 110% physically attractive.

I want a woman who doesn't rely on me for anything and everything, but is self independent instead.  Assertive and open minded are key assets.  Humour and a sarcasm are big musts.  Also likes to be active and try all sorts of new things.

A woman like that will glow self confidence.  The trust should build quickly, following all things above.  At that point, there will be no problem with her hanging out with her friends, be it guys or girls, and visa versa.

We still love each others company.  It's fun, fresh and sensitive, so we both love spending time with each other...we just don't need to do it daily all year.  We have a great balance with OUR time and our independent time.  We can hang out alone or with each others friends.

This woman will support the choices and decisions most important to me and visa versa.

This woman, being the independent, assertive, confident woman she is, will not tolerate shit from me...as in, she'll get me on the right track, when needed.  The main thing I'm talking about is...support.

To reach that point, doesn't happen overnight.  Don't rush it.  When it is rushed, like most things in life, it is half-ass built and falls apart eventually.  I want a woman who, even subconsciously, understands this.

Have fun with dating people.  And to me dating/relationship should be treated the same way.

Women crush men, men crush women...it's all part of the process of finding that someone that will fit right with you.  When it doesn't work, it's truly just a building block for the next relationship.  Learn from mistakes that were made from both sides in the last relationship and use the knowledge.

There are 7 billion(or something like that) personalities in the world, and some people have more than 1 . For two people to find "it" together the first handful or even many handfuls of dating experiences, is highly unlikely.

Have confidence, have fun, give/have trust.

Above all, I am not the type who plays mind games.  I don't like to "guess" at how someone is feeling.  I'm not "that girl" who likes assholes, or who likes a challenge, or a guy who treats her like shit.  The last guy who treated me like shit got his nose and jaw broken and tossed down a flight of stairs.  If you like me, tell me.  If you think I'm being a cunt, tell me.  If you don't want to be together, tell me that too.  If I look like shit in something I'm wearing, don't tell me it looks good.  Because you can be damn sure I'm going to tell you how I'm feeling, and what I'm thinking, all the time.  I can't stand that stupid, immature, high school bullshit - acting the opposite of how you feel to play games with someone's head and attract them to you...no.  Fuck that.

I have a good (twisted?) sense of humor, so being able to make fun of yourself, and other people, is necessary, or we wouldn't last 1 day together.  Someone who can make me laugh is a must, and someone who can make me laugh at myself is even better.  Honesty ALL the time, not just when it's convenient.  No sugar coating shit.  No cheaters, period.  Someone who would rather hang out with me in bed watching movies on a Friday night than go to the bars every weekend.  Someone who is ok with sometimes watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force instead of movies.  Someone who is ok with my quirks, and can put me in my place when I'm being a stupid girl, and has no problem telling me I'm being an idiot, because I am.  Someone who can rival me intellectually and carry on a lengthy good conversation, or a heated debate, without me feeling like I'm talking down to them so they understand me.  Someone who wants kids, and who wants something long term, because I don't see the point in wasting time with a person with different long term expectations than me.  I had my 1 night stand phase in high school, and I'm well beyond that.  Someone with ambition, goals, and a plan to meet those goals. Someone who tolerates my friends and my family.  You don't have to love them like I do, but for the most part, they're good people...great people...and if anyone tried to come between me and any of them, they wouldn't be around for very long.  Someone who is ok with me being a raving lunatic from April to October, during Red Sox season, and will deal with me screaming at the TV on Sundays and Monday nights during football.  Making an effort to watch with me is a plus, but not necessary.  Someone who likes animals, will hug me when I need a hug, and let me sleep on their shoulder at night, even though I sometimes drool a little bit when I sleep   Pretty eyes make me swoon, and so does a guy who can beat me in an arguement...but only once in a while   A guy who will pack me lunch and leave me notes in it saying how much he loves me.  A guy who will wait outside for me with our dog, when he knows I'm coming home from work when I'm in a sad or stressed mood, so that the first thing I see when I pull into the driveway is our puppy bounding towards me and him waving.  Someone who opens doors once in a while, and pays for dinner more often than not, because he believes that chivalry is not dead, it's just on vacation.  A guy who tells me about 20 times a day that he loves me, and doesn't say it because it's habit, or because he has to...but because he does.  Someone who spends all day downloading music for my little sister so we can surprise her on her birthday with a whole lot of files for her new MP3 player.  And deals with the fact that most of it is Hilary Duff and Carrie Underwood

God...that's an unfairly long and harsh list.   Good thing I already found him
