I'm sure that's new mycelium growing on top of the older mycelium. A few questions though.
How much time has passed since you birthed that cake ?
Did you mixed strains by accident ?
Was there any important temp and Rh fluctuation ?
What strain is it ?

from that picture it looks like the cake is just fluffing up a little before fruiting. Mexicube lipa yai cakes seam to want to build a up a fluffy coat of mycellium on cakes before it flushes. It gets all blue and gets matted down. Keep an eye on it tho, looks kinda odd cuz only the top is doin it, usually the whole make or most will.

well if it is a cobweb vs mycelium battle, it will be the first time i have heard of someone birthing a cobweb cake, and then having the mycelium start to take over, smart thinking going for the high ground though :P
