difference between coolmist and ultrasonic?

Hi,
I'd like to know the difference between this 2 kind of humidifier.
I recovered a Kaz ultrasonic humidifier(the small one without tank, you put a bottle of water), made a drill with a garden hose (1/4inch, 2.50feet long, I have a 5 gallon terrarium). The mist is very dense; how much time should I let it on per hour ? (for cakes and casings)

i've got two terrariums one with coolmist and one with ultrasonic
i found like you said the mist out of the ultra is very dense i had do to use a container between the hum and the terr a 2 liter bottle works well just put the bottle on its side put the hose in from the hum on one side and on the other put a hose the the terr it cuts down on the direct mist to the terr which in turn cuts down on the water droplet build up in side terr
i didnt try to shut it on and off with a timer so i couldnt tell you times but i just wanted to share with you the way i solved my prob
do you have an exaust hole for air circ???
if not you need on most likely it should be a 1/4" hole drilled into the side of terr.
