Idealism
    #6250332 -

I contemplate that perhaps idealism is difficult to maintain due to the fact that there are millions of other human beings who do not strive to uphold the particular ideal that strikes one as being necessary, not to mention the nature of reality itself unfolding by its own accord.

Clearly, it requires effort towards manifesting an ideal. One must interact with reality in a manner that will ensure that reality will not contradict the ideal state that one wishes to maintain. There will be other forces that will inevitably work agansit the ideal state of how a particular aspect of reality should be in.

In spite of this, I do not think that idealism is to be cast aside, and that one should not strive to support one's sense of an ideal being maintained in reality. I do think, of course, that one should maintain a practical outlook on the ideals that one enertains. For example, if there is no action that one could take that would have an effect on the appearance of the ideal state one prefers in this phenomenon referred to as reality, then there is no sense in being attached to this ideal.

I think that one has to be a conduit for the materialization of one's ideals - one must act in a manner that will subsequently plant the seed of the ideal taking form. If the specific processes are not occuring which would produce the existance of the ideal, then there is no way it will ever appear.

I think that, ultimately, awareness is the space in which ideals grow.

IMO it is far too easy to cross the line between idealism and neuroticism.  When we cherish our ideals, see them as the way things should be, then we have become addicted to their being manifested in reality.  If we can hold on loosely (sorry, 80's music reference ) to our ideals, maintain them as preferences, and perhaps use them as guidelines for our own behavior, then we may be able to steer clear of neurotic suffering over their actualization (or lack therof).

I think the ease one would have in crossing that line would lie dependant on whether an individual is introverted or extroverted. If one were to introverted, then one would perhaps not be as capable of effectively acting in manners that would promote the maintainence of one's ideals in consensual reality. At the same time, if one were overly extroverted, their actions would not be as guided with the sense of one's ideals and the awareness of how to effectively maintain their existance in reality.

Something like that, I think. One can only look towards the shining image of Sam Walton and discover that a man with an ideal can accomplish its appearance in reality.
