I was in a Spanish class in undergraduate school.  One time, we were talking about what type of person we are, in Spanish.  I said, en espanol, that I was "shy".  The whole class busted up.  Sometimes, the way were see ourselves isn't exactly how we portray ourselves, ya know?

During that time, I think I said I was shy because really, I was insecure.  There's a big difference.  I'm not shy at all.  I'm just a little insecure at times.  Well, back then, I was majorly insecure.  But I talked a lot to anyone who would hold still for a minute.

I was just thinking about creating this exact type of thread shortly after the intro/extro comment in the other aformentioned thread. Crazy minds think alike, eh?

Anyways, I would like to take this appropriate moment to recommend a book to all my fellow Innies here..

Name says it all. Excellent read. This book truly has alot of "aha!" moments.

Now the real question is... do you have an innie or outtie?

My Lady and I are both INTP [Introverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving] Types according to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which we have both become familiar with for years (I once administered and hand-scored 1000 MBTI's as a grad assistant). I use to use the MBTI in my counseling practice. It is extraordinarily helpful for career choice, partner choice, and in understanding why others process things so differently than each of us (unless you're the same type with similar scores on the inventory).

If I were to be judged by others, I'm certain they'd say I was an introvert, that is because I am often quiet. Though, thats only half the truth. Most of the time there isnt much to really say. I'm silent unless I feel I have reason to talk. I'm quite comfortable in the presence of others or when alone, though I often find myself thirsting for more satisfying conversation topics (something besides sex, gossip, etc...) from other people.

Wow, that describes me well... I put down introvert, but this is actually more akin to myself. I enjoy my me time, but I also really enjoy a mentally stimulating conversation with others on similar pages to my own.

Hey markos, is there a place online one could find this little test you speak of? It sounds interesting! And I think this "INTP" you speak of describes me well, so I'm curious as to whether or not my own perceptions of myself line up with the results. :P

Jacques, I made a thread about it... I couldn't resist.  I love the MBTI test.  You can see all the info here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1

I'm an introvert when you first meet me, but once I warm up to people, I can be very extroverted. I chose introvert, though, because I'm quite comfortable by myself.

Any indicative characteristics?

Quote:

We all use both our introverted and extroverted skills, but we are hard wired to be more one than the other. Look at the lists below and determine which one feels more like YOU!

Not every aspect will fit exactly for you because we are all unique. If you don't feel like you fit one side more than the other, even by 51% to 49%, then ask yourself this question: If there is an emergency do you tend to stand still and feel somewhat shutdown or in slow motion? If you have a standstill reaction to stress more often, then you are probably an introvert. In a crisis do you tend to move your body immediately and feel like taking action, maybe without pausing to think? Then you are probably an extrovert if you react with movement. Under stress we can experience our innate temperament. Look over the two lists and think about how you ARE, not as you'd like to be. If your still uncertain, as a last ditch effort, ask someone you trust and who is honest to read these and suggest which one sounds more like you.

Introverts:
Enjoy time alone
Consider only deep relationships as friends
Feel drained after outside activities, even if they were fun
Good listener
Appear calm and self-contained
Think then speak or act

Extroverts:
Like to be in the thick of things
Relish variety
Know lots of people, considers lots of people friends
Enjoy chit-chatting, even to strangers
Feel stoked after activity
Speak or act then think OR think while speaking

Interesting the results so far.  Appears Skorp was right in his theorizing.

The introvert description fits me for the most part, except that I'm not as good a listener as I wish I was, and I too often speak or act without thinking.
