those aren't turntables.

CD players w/ wheels.

<-- vinyl purist.

though i do plan on getting Live or Final Scratch at some point.

on topic.. advice:

play every day.

learn to mix off the highs... match hats, not the bass kick.

learn to pitch slide... touch the record as little as possible... swing the pitch adjust in sweeps past the BPM you think you need to be at until it swings into line.

try not to use the imbedded assist shit on CDJs... learn to mix right, you'll feel better.

start off w/ the most minimal stuff w/in your taste... less 'other' sounds will make it easier to get the hang of beat matching.

once you get the hang of beat-matching, start thinking about key-matching.. matching synth sounds... programming.. etc.

PLAY EVERY DAY!!  even if it's just to try and match 2 records.. cds.. whatever.

It depends on the style of music your wanting to mix. If your wanting to spin some type of EDM such as trance or house stick to the bass drum.  Its going to be wayyyyy to hard for a starter to match high hats.

Pitch sliding is veryyyy differnt with CDJs. Its not the same as turntables. Yes you can match with just using the pitch slider but i wouldnt reccomend it.  The best way to use CDJs is to match the tempo on the pitch slide so both track are about the same speed. After you do that use your jogwheel to get keep them together. So if your tracks start to fall apart just give the jog wheel a little boost to catch up.

Also good choice on the CDJs your gonna love your pioneer.

i still like the feel of vinyl & TTs.

the reason i switched to cds is cause buying records was making me broke. i was addicted to buying records.

also, i was running out of space in my apartment.

i may buy another set of TTs after college, prolly not though.

Oh man thats what you think. Vinyl is plenty alive and kickin'.  Although at clubs, every big DJ we've booked has had a part in the contract that they HAVE to have CDJs there. Not dead yet though

man the 707 is the sickest scratch mixer you can find. as far as starting out, well find the "beat" its easly said then done, the beat is in you, and the beat is everywere. Once you learn to flow and make things sound good you can express yourself. If you can be more clear about what your asking then I can give a more deinfed answer. I'm a dj and I love music.,

Vinyl may not be a huge format like CD's are now but that doesnt mean its going anywhere. Theres a HUGE market for Djs who use vinyl. Do your really expect lables not to take advantage of it?

Plus vinyl is black crack once you start buying you cant stop. Trust me I know

:rofl2:

You aint no Dj!

Anybody can use traktor and make a mix all you gota do is press a button and it mixes for you. Lets see you get behind the decks and make a tight mix.

vinals are jsut too damn expensive... cds are easier thanx to downloading, burning, rewriting, etc.

i would dare-say that playing from vinyl takes more commitment than playing from burnt CDs or a laptop.

i love spending an afternoon at a few record shops... and coming home w/ 5 or 10 new records... a lot more than downloading some new tracks.

vinyl is far from dead, and i'm happy about it.

Tell me about it I was spending about 50-60 bucks for about 4-5 records when I ordered them online. Thats why I switched over to CDs I can get the songs for free.

You should still buy them man. If you're getting them for free then they are probably shitty MP3's. Beatport.com has great tracks at reasonable prices, and in wave format.

Almost all of my mp3/wav have great sound quality im not to worried about it really. Plus I mix as a hobby not a job so Im not trying to impress anybody with sound quality. If I ever landed a gig then maybe id consider using beatport.com to buy better quality music but I dont see that happening anytime soon.
