Your diploma will become the shackles that bond you to slavery
    #6215014 -

long long ago i realised somthing.

you can either work for someone else, or go off and do your own thing.
The only reason people go to school and get a diploma is not for the knowledge, but for the piece of paper that will make you hirable in the future in a very specific field.

If you choose that path, you will most likely be in debt by the time you earn your precious piece of paper. so much debt that you will have no other option but to work in that field for the next few years. It might have been fun and interesting while you were in college blinded by the companionship of your peers and the freedom of your lifestyle, but that will end and a bitter cold reality will start to creep up your spine.

During this time your life will start to revolve around this job and lifestyle, and while it is possible for you to break free, it is very rare that anyone ever does. Most people in this sitution are not happy, they know that they are infact corporate slaves and are unable to break free.

Be careful what choices you make in life, because they often have consequences that far outreach any of your perspective at the time

In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

Thats only true if you want to it to be. Thats that persons fault if they study something that doesn't interest him. I know I'm learning some really essential stuff. The learning process isn't done in the A's one gets but rather having a drive to LEARN new prospectives and ideas. The whole point of school is laying that foundation. If your going their for a piece of paper.. then IMO, your waisting your time. Its a time of learning. Of checking out fields that you can one day make a living off one day.

I think he meant.. people that major in philosophy are not just going in it for that piece of paper.. rather, they are doing it for themselves.

I have a piece of paper which says I should be highly employable in the newspaper industry. After working for a newspaper for the past 5 years I have broken free.

Now I'm a bike tour guide on Maui. Nice, huh?

There is a lot more to college than a piece of paper. There is knowledge, and the additional experience of being in a college environment.

I took classes which exposed me to a variety of subjects that I wouldn't otherwise have come in contact with; in doing so, I was able to determine subjects which I liked, and disliked which helped me choose a career.

College is no more of a mistake than doing nothing with your life while celebrating your "freedom from the man". To each his own.

...the whole experience is (and is as) a profound piece of knowledge.  It is an indellible experience; it is forever known.  I have known myself in a way I doubt I would have ever occurred except as it did.

Smith, P.  Bull. Menninger Clinic (1959) 23:20-27; p. 27.

...most subjects find the experience valuable, some find it frightening, and many say that is it uniquely lovely.

I believe he is speaking on the inherit fallacy of the diploma system. A lot of brilliant minds out there are without because they could not conform or chose not to endorse a system that so readily acknowledges mediocrity over brlliance.

Zippoz feeel free to tell me to fuck off if I over step my boundaries.

if you want to win, you gotta play society's game.

college is a choice. people go into it KNOWING that they may or may not owe money if they graduate, but when you have the opportunity to make an average 20 thousand dollars a year higher than a person with only a highschool diploma it becomes worth it.

it's not like youre in debt for the rest of your life. You get experience, money, pay off your debts, and then you can do whatever you want (with lots of money).

and youre right...in the early 1900's it was a society where the Scholars ruled the world.
Now, it's the corporations.
things always change.

long long ago I realized the same thing, zippoz

but then I thought about it.

and these other people in here are right. it's only a "piece of paper" if you want it to be. if you're genuinely interested in something that can turn into a career, college is fucking amazing. I'm currently out of school, and paying off a student loan from when I dropped out.

I don't have any business in a four year school, but I've got a trade to learn now. As soon as finances allow it, I'll be going to culinary school. the world always needs a cook, and I love cooking delicious things. so hey! why not be a chef, and not a line cook?

I'm excited to go back to school, and I don't think it'll be a waste at all. debt, sure. but who cares. I have that anyway.

if you know what you want to do, and you know people in the field, and you want that big house and that big car and a big family, then college can definetly help.

All in all it all depends on how hard you work at it. Somethings you need that diploma. Somethings you need trade school. Somethings you create all from that funny thing in your head called a brain and an idea.

as the saying goes..... theres more then one way to skin a cat.
