dapper came out six months ago. they are on a six month release schedule.

I am running edgy right now and it seems stable. much faster than dapper. I recommend it.

did you update from dapper, or clean install?

i tried a few times to upgrade to one of the beta releases, but it always failed

tried to clean install from cd. failed three times. might try to reinstall dapper and just upgrade, but i hear it's got ugly results.

I'm sure I'll upgrade, but I'm happy with Dapper right now.. it supported my wireless card with no problems! More than I can say than for any other distro I've tried...

I always do clean installs. I keep all my media and files on an external harddrive, so it's easy to start from scratch.

maybe the image had an error on it. I remember the first time I tried to install arch linux, the image I dl'ed and burned was messed up. I dl'ed from a different server and burned at a slower speed and it worked.

I really liked dapper, but edgy has a very solid and speedy feel to it.

ok, so edgy is working beautifully on my computer, but it is a developmental release hence the name. and dapper is the solid release hence the LTS on the end of its name (lts = long term support). I guess the ubuntu schedule is every fourth release is the solid one and the others are developmental to test out new technology (edgy seems to be testing various speed-up tweaks and compiz support - the only difficulty I had was install my ATI fglrx driver which needed a quick modification of xorg.conf unlike other releases). I like edgy but be warned that it could be buggy for you.
