Hell yeah! My wireless card which didn't work with WinXP64 worked with Ubuntu64 when i compiled the drivers myself from source

also, what is a good torrent client? i was thinking ktorrent but i really don't know.

you wont get very good performance with ktorrent and it is unstable

remember that ubuntu uses gnome and ktorrent is written for kde... you may not be able to run it at all

i have tried many torrent clients under linux and so far azureus is the best as well as being highly stable

the best site to get help for me is linuxquestions.org

however i don't use ubuntu/kubuntu so there may be a better place for help

yeah, you'll be installing things a lot by console with what's called apt package manager. Thankfully with gutsy most things can simply be installed via apt-get - even a successful install of the restricted nvidia 3d drivers! Plus if you dont want to apt-get from console you can always install Synaptic which is a gui for apt.

sudo apt-get install synaptic

well there are two ways to install... through packages and by compiling through source code

for most mainstream programs you will have packages available that work like windows installers

but many programs do not have packages so you need to compile the source code

i suggest that you decide what x environment you want before you do anything because that choice will determine what packages are available to you... the two main ones are KDE and GNOME

Oh yeah thats very true. Do to the fact that Ubuntu is a free, open source operating system it can't include proprietary codecs for multimedia. In 6.06 I remember having to install these manually. Haven't used 7> for this purpose, is there a simple way to do this?
