it's best not to pluck shrooms directly from the ground ... sorry, not good at id's... this isn't a flam either, just thought you should know ... it's better for the health of the underground network if you cut the shrooms ... less susceptable to deseases... I"m confused to which size this mushroom is .. i cannot tell buy the coin, i don't live around that currency... i can only judge by the "quilts" in the paper towel.

Those are Corpinus. Common name is inky caps, hence your inky stains. They are not active. They will make you sick if you eat them and drink alchol with in a few days of eating them. Edible yes, trippy no. My advice would be to toss them out, they're nothing special really. Keep searching in that area though, its the right habitat for something special. I find these guys growing along side Pan subbs all the time. Peace out, -Gumby

yeah - good ID - I think when you say 'bluemeanies' you mean Subaeruginosa (copper caps, flying saucers). Bluemeanies are generally the term to describe the dung-loving species Copelandia Cyanescens. Keep hunting though - but remember your not looking for grey/white mushrooms in Victoria so go for those little brown mushrooms. There are a number of poisonous look alike mushrooms to look out for - if the gills and stem are at all offwhite or yellowish keep right away.

They're pretty easily identified, most of them have caps that are split, or caps that bearly exist. They also have those lines that run verticaly down the sides of the caps... I dunno, Corpinus just have a certain look that just screams Corpinus. Can't really pinpoint it.

Now that i have seen a few of them i know what you mean, I was wondering about something, i read that the caps can melt off of these, does anyone know why they do this? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure its a method of releasing spores, the spores are in the slime that melts off... maybe bugs track the spores around... who knows.
