Jar temperature
    #6170428 -

Hello everyone!  I inoculated six 1/2 pint jars with Ecuadorian cubensis spores about eight days ago, and still no sign of colonization.  However, during the first six days, I wasn't in town and the jars were kept in a cold cupboard until I returned (stupid idea).  I'd been using a somewhat vague online instructional, and it mentioned nothing regarding incubation temperatures, so of course I've neglected to incubate them properly until now!  Just wondering, is it lethal to keep the spores at temperatures lower than seventy, perhaps even sixty degrees after inoculation, or does it merely impedite the colonization process?  Also, does anyone know anything about Ecuadorian cubensis, and how long germination normally takes to occur?  Just wondering if I should have seen something by now and all hope is lost, or if I should continue to wait this out.

I'm just a worried newbie.

Your advice is appreciated!  Thanks!!!

~Icelander

I would bet they will be fine once they are put somewhere to warm up for a while,I bet they are just stalled due to the cold.Good luck with your grow

Spores usally take 3-4day's to germinate at 28c-30c/84-86d

On the very rare occasion (1 in a million) the spores won't find a partner spore to hook up with and germinate, once again. There is a technical term for this but im to damn lazy to look it up. Anywho, if your keeping your jar's at the optimal tempature range now, then give it a few more day's before you begin to worry. Jar's themselfs produce a internal tempature of 5d so your ideal tempature setting would be 26c-28c wich will leave the jar's at 87-89d's, might be abit to hot and encourage bacterial growth/moldspores but it will also cause everything to germinate faster.

Anywho, set your heater to 28c and see what happens in a few days. Also, make sure your jar's are getting gas exchange. Germination times depend on how much CO2 is in the jar, sporulation prefer's 10,000BPM's of CO2 but under is fine, high CO2 level's are beneficial for mycellium growth after the jar's reach half way then you want to reduce it to about 5,000BPM's, installing a filter patch works fine but is abit of extra work. Anywho, hope this helps.

and EQ's are usally fast colonizer's.

Great! I still haven't gotten hold of a thermometer...or a heating device...but I do have the jars well-covered with several beanie hats (heh...), in a cardboard box with a lamp shining inside, and things are feeling good and warm. Hopefully within the next day or two I'll get my hands on the right materials. It's good to know I didn't freeze the spores or anything... =)

Thanks for the help!!! =)

Keeping them in a few bags or in a tub about a foot away from an incandescent bulb (40W) is going put them at 15-20F more than room temperature.

Ecuadorian is a slow colonizer, but I have read that it makes up for that by being a fast fruiter. Shit happens, don't let it get you down, good luck on your grow.

Dude, the spore's require complete darkness to begin colonization. You answered your own question :p

I can vouch for the agressive fruiting ability of the ecuador. And the slow colonization as well.
