Friday the 13th, i was walking down the street, and i saw a subaru that was the same year/model as mine... and i though "man, i wanna drive my subaru again" ... been drivin the honda... so this morning, saturday night/sunday morning at around 2am, i'm on my way to work, but there's been an accident on the freeway, whole freeway is shut down, must exit into downtown seattle... so i manage that, get through downtown finaly... not really a big deal, i left for work early, i had plenty of time...
so i'm on this industrial road on the outskirts of seattle, alaska way, and i'm cruizin along, doin about 35... i had just checked it cause i was wondering the speed limit on that road, didnt want to risk a ticket or anything... ok, so the roads were a little wet, first rain of the season really (mushroom season ) and i start to take a slight S curve, and on the first turn i noticed that i'm startin to hydroplane, ever so slightly, it happens sometimes, bald rear tires and whatnot.. was gonna get them fixed soon, but just dropped 600 on a root canal, and 400 for books... anyway, i let off the gas slightly, and just sorta go with it, i was still in the lane, cruisin at the same general speed, totaly in controll... now, alaska way is a pretty jacked up road, a lot of trucks and whatnot travel down that road, and i dont think they maintain it very much... so i hit a pothole or a bump or something, and my rearend decides it wants to go first,... so i gradualy turn the wheel to correct this, checked my mirror, looked ahead, no one, 4 lanes, i was totaly safe... so i was just gonna go with it, i had the vehicle pointing straight again, and what happens? BAM another pothole, sends me spinning in the other direction... ok, not so bad, still no one around, but by this time i was coming out of the S curve, headed toward a sidewalk with a fence... not really a big deal, i cut the tires to the right to help avoid the fence, and my rear tires were up on the sidewalk, and i'm going down the street sideways... still, close, but i was slowing down by this point, i wasnt going to hit the fence... awesome...
but what do i see flash onto the sidewalk? a dark green fire hydrant. BAM, right behind the passenger tire...i went forward, perpendicular to the street and hit the brakes.. "shit, i hope that thing didnt bust off..." rearview>"whew"... and then i put it in gear and drove it across the street to a small dirt cutout... so, it's obviously not drivin straight... i got out, knew i had a jack and was gonna bust on it if i could to get to work... tire wasnt flat, but a big dent in the back, and the rear tire was pointing out a bit...
hopped back in the car, threw it in reverse, drove it down the road about 30 feet, it was walkin all over, i had to correct it a bunch... didnt want to stop at that point, cause there really was no place for it... i was gonna stop at a jack in the box to park it, but said fuck it, and drove it the rest of the way to work.... I got there, RAN inside, 2:30, my start time, hit the time clock, then it changed less than 2 seconds later...
so i had to get my subaru from my moms house... got a ride to the ferry terminal, tried to call them, "changed number, unlisted..WTF?" so i took the ferry across, tried again, same message... so now i'm 20 miles away and i need to find a way to get there... first cab "how much?.. over 30, no way" next guy "20 somethin... ok, let's go"... the fare came to $45, but he only charged me 27...
and on top of that, i had to get a battery for the subaru... another $40... i've got 2 sections of calculus homework due tomorrow that i was going to bust on today.. there's just no way i can handle that one...
