Orange Fungus - id help

I searched through my one small mushroom field guide and could not find anything that resembled my photo. Found on decomposing wood. Only about 3/4 inch.

It could be a slime mold. It could also be a very immature mushroom - at that stage they're tough to ID.

Judging by the shape and size, I'd say this is hypoxylon fragiforme. I found those yesteday as well:

I had originally thought it may be a hypoxylon species so it looks like I was in the right ball park. Thanks!

The mushroom does resemble Pycnoporus cinnabarinus, not yet fully formed.
However the texture and shape of the mushroom in question bears uncanny resemblance to Hypoxylon fragiforme.
Koraks hit the nail on the head.
