Quick drying idea

How does this sound?

Use a normal dessicant chamber, a bowl with one screen holding the dry rite and the other (top) holding the mushrooms.

Put it in a rubbermaid box with a box fan blowing downwards on top. Any problems with this idea? Seems to me like it would combine the 2 steps and do it quicker.

Getting a fan in their would be kinda difficult? Mabie one of those
hand-held-john-slaps if you duct tape it to the lid. I havnt gotten to this point yet (wish me luck), so I wouldnt know, but it makes sence. Dont know how much faster it would dry, probably not that much faster that it would make a big difference.

I'm not talking about putting teh fan in the box, just resting it on top.

I'm not at that point yet either, just some mycelium in 4 myco bags :smile:

ah. Thanks. That is what I thoght could be a problem. I also thought that since the air would be quickly passing over the shrooms and into the dessicant, they would dry much quicker.

I think Ill just do it the regular way. Fan for 2 days then the chember :smile:

Nope......not a good idea.

cause the fan will pull moist air into the dry rite making it useless.

it might be an idea if you were to put a little computer fan inside of the sealed drying chamber

I've tried just about every drying method and what I've found seems to work best is use a razor blade and cut them small as you can. Seperate the caps from the stems. Cut the stems lengthwise as thin as you can, (like each stem into 1/8ths or so) Then either 1/8th the caps, or slice them like you'd find them on a pizza. It helps to use tweezers to pick them up, since when you cut them that thin it's hard to grab with your fingers. Then put them on cheap paper plates to dry. When I did that they were cracker dry in less than 24 hours. The thinner you slice them, the quicker they dry. If you don't slice them small enough, they get leathery instead of cracker dry.
