How can u be sure when shrooms are fully dry. I've read that they should be 'cracker dry'. I've had some next to a fan for a couple of days, they seem fairly dry, but there is still a little bit of sponginess to them. Should I keep drying them or are they ok? How long can you leave them exposed to the air before they start to lose potency?

i suggest making a dessicant chamber and then you'll really know what "cracker-dry" means... and ofcourse their not "cracker-dry" if their "spongy" or what ever you said... "cracker-dry" means exactly that... dry as a cracker, have you ever had a cracker??? it crumbles right????

dont the shrooms touch the dessicant if they are on paper towels and then the paper towels get wet? that would be a cool idea cause ive always gone through the trouble of using netting which seems pretty slow. thanks Later

EASY MAINTENANCE DRYING CHAMBER Materials: 1. milk crate 2. 2.5gal water container(w/ spout) 3. window mesh/somekind of wire mesh 4. plastic bag (dont for get the little twistie ties) 5. (optional) small fan 6. (optional) CO2 (used for blowing computer dust around ) Construction 1. Cut the 1st 3 inches of the top of the water container off 2. Cut wire mesh to the size of the container adding an extra 4 inches more to each side of the patch you will be cutting 3. Form your wire mesh into the top of your water container, bending your 4 inch lip over the edges and taping it(taping is optional if your using the right mesh) 4. place inside of milk crate, place a piece of paper towel over the wire and pour your dessicant onto it 5. cut a patch of wire mesh that has sides 1/2 inch smaller than the opening of the top of the milk crate 6. get "twistie-ties" (from box of plastic bags) and tie your wire mesh patch to the inside of your crate. There should be a space between the top patch and the container below. You should also leave some space between the top mesh and the top of the crate. 7. get your plastic bag and place the whole crate inside, try to get as much air as you can out of it and tie it down with a twisty 8. (optional) the fan can also be fixed to one of the sides but if you can build this you can figure out where that goes 9. (optional) air can be sucked out of your plastic bag with a vacuum, then tied, then you can poke a hole in the plastic and spray some CO2 into there and tape the hole closed. PRO'S: Easy clean up (water can be poured out of the spout) Fairly cheap Easy to get parts Large drying area Stackable Low Alkaloid Loss CONS: Work peace and good luck "like a Japanese Cowboy or a blind man on skates"Ween "you must make sure that the lady's pure for the Funky Cold Medina"Tone LocEdited by BrownPastures on 06/05/01 07:58 PM.
