there are pictures of gyms growing with no apparent log, 1, and 2 in the links, ive seen more, yes a log under the ground is a good answer, the area was logs and logs, dead roots my dad says, sorry to be a hastle here Tricholoma, looks damm close there was some with a partial veil though it flaked off, ya got me there and thank you, i aint so sure now.

Don't worry about it, there were times where I had thought I had a certain mushroom and was about 100% positive, and very happy until everyone else told me otherwise.  Its real easy to get look alikes, but the differences are very minor and easily overlooked.  And coon, are you in PA?  I'm in NH and have looked for gyms the past few weeks and have come up with nothing, but its been quite warm and not much rain at all up here :frown:

Thanks!  I have a river in mind I will go check out either today or tomorrow.  I'm still hoping for rain, for some reason its like 70+ degrees out here still.  But my birthday is tomorrow so maybe I'll get a nice bday present from the woods! :laugh:

It seems like your specimens lack a veil.

I'm no Gym expert, I've never seen them, nor hunted for them, and unfortuanately my guide doesn't even have them.

But the pictures your citing all have veils, veils that reveal a rusty spore color, and yours have no veil.
