Golden Teach or Penis Envy?

Given the choice between the two, which would you grow?

I know Penis Envy is a powerful strain, but is difficult (compared to other strains) to obtain spores.

Golden Teach is also said to be relatively potent. Any drawbacks to this species?

So, if you could only grow one, hypothetically speaking of course, which one and why?

if you wait until the later flushes, there might be a better chance at
sporulation.
I'm trying right now with some and they are fighting me.

It's fun to have some different looking kids running around.

Ok, I know of no one personally that has grown the penis envy strain so i'm calling out the big gun ( thats if he will come out and share his wisdom) Anno, whats the deal with penis envy and spore production. I'm tired of hearing how they don't produce many spores. Anno share you knowlege on this subject, if you have no first hand knowlege tell us your hypothesis on this. Pretty Please, you old myconut.

i've not grown them myself either, but just look at those pictures (i.e., the shape and size of the cap, how thick the stem underneath is must make it hard to remove, and their overall lack of opening up much...) i'll think you'll get a hint why it might be a little hard to get spore prints from them. :smile:

I see exactly what you saying, however there has to be a logical reason, not just cause they look that way. Example
I was in prison with a fat man, you know what they say about fat men right, ( they got a small penis) Sorry wrong answer this mofo used to walk around naked Swinging his shit like it was a jump rope, this mother f'er had the biggest penis i have ever seen, in person or on celluloid.

well i think the physical characteristics is pretty much the logical reason :wink:

besides that remember PE is the result of a mutation itself... so if you want a more scientific in depth explanation it probably has to do with that, its mutated genetics may not be the most "fertile"

well you could be correct, in that it is because its a mutation, but somebody is getting spores somewhere and if it were that difficult would the vendors not be charging more for it ? Personally i think it has to do with timing, as to when the print is taken.

Yup, the cap simply produces little spore. The strain puts all its effort into the stem instead of spore production. Just a mutant mishap, I guess. According to the research I am doing, most agree that PE is indeed difficult to get spores...

But, as for cloning... OKAY.. Total Newb here, only a few successful MmmmHmmmms under my belt. I've been on Ecuadorian for a bit, now. Is cloning what you do with agar?

The physical design is the reason. They produce plenty of spores. For one, the design is all crammed up, so the spores have a hard time falling. Add that to a big dense cap ya gotta leave set for a long long time to get spores. Well, that leads to dampness and bacterial infections. So its really not that they dont have plenty of spores (although less spores, maybe), but about their design.

Many vendors often have spores of them and their 'rarity' is oversold. I've been told the trick is to cut the caps up into fours using a sterile blade and print each individually. If this is done in a desiccant chamber with good technique, bacterial contamination is minimal to null.

Each quarter print is more than enough for a syringe if you go that way.

you can do cloning with agar, and ive also seen the cardboard cloning tek but havent tried it myself...if you cant gegt agar.

technique and timing are important for sure

but even counting out PE, some strains simply are heavier spore depositors than others... some begin dropping spores immediately when the viel breaks, others wait until the cap opens a bit more... it varies (and so should your timing and technique!)

but to your other comment, if you watch the various vendors over time you'll notice it may not cost more but PE is more often out of stock. :smile:

I've grown these many times

The reason for the difficulty in printing , or obtaining spores for printing , is the mutation . I believe it might be a mutant of Amazon , or South American , can't remember . I've read that only 10% even produce spores . On top of that , the shape of the  cap makes those that do produce even harder to see , and  print .

I've printed none , have only had 5 or so drop some spores , by then it was too late . I just keep an LC going and some stored away in a vacutainer for future use . Cloning also works .

I'm sure you realize that a talented person can get oodles of syringes from one big print. Well, your not going to get that from PE. It goes to figure that the additional effort will equal less product. I don't question there are less of them available. I question reason behind it (a lot more effort vs. doesn't drop spores).

Try cutting the caps up and printing in the desiccant chamber (the drying process also opens up the meaty caps). You will see, or so I am told, a dramatic increase in available viable spores. But even 10% sporulation will provide for many a syringe (dependent on size of grow/ one of ten mush = 4 syringe min).

(and I've been told that if your handy with the agar, then it's enough for a lifetime)

Ok, i buy into some of what your saying, but show me a vendor that keeps a stock of B strain, this is an excellent strain, but they don't get the hype that PE get or for that matter gt or sa or hawaiian, i'm gonna find the post i read yesterday, where somebody that has more knowlege on this than you or i, that said,  Everybody wants PE because it looks like a penis and everybody wants it because of the novelty.  I Pm ed Anno, because i been around long enough to know that opinions are like assholes everybody gots one, then we will see what the MAN says.  I might eat crow but at least if i do i'll know its server up by a chef and not a dishwasher and if i'm wrong i'll be the first to offer up an apology

i dont think it requires "knowledge" to know that PE is a novelty and desired as such...  so what? ok so maybe the demand has to do with lack of supply too... :smile:

i'm not exactly sure what you're asking or the point you're trying to make here is... we pointed out some possible reasons why they may not be good depositors, and monstermitch and hippiechick both agree from direct experience with them, and they both know what they're doing.

and isn't B+ not an "improved" version of B?  i remember reading somewhere about those strains A, B, C, D that were collected (somewhere by someone the whole story eludes me at the moment :wink:) and C & D basically sucked, but A & B were kept around... and B+ was isolated from B because of its larger size or something to that effect?  i know A strain is still sold (ralph carries it at least) and why would anyone carry B and B+ if B+ really is better?  and what does that have to do with anything in the first place? :smile:

Look, This has turned into a slugging match that i'm not going to continue, the point that i'm making is that there is a reason that penis envy is hard to get spores from and I want to have a definative answer why, not opinions.

if you want a definite answer then you should take it up with mother nature. i don't see why it matters anyway, the important thing is that it is the way it is.

There is no slugging. Questions asked and answered. There is no one answer to the issue, but several factors. The end result, though, is that spore collection is achievable and no one is gonna run out of spores because even if they are less available they are not rare. Which goes back to...

To the original poster: Many people claim to love the GT. Many people also claim to have lots of difficulties getting it to pin, however. So there are pros and cons to both your choices. Go with the one you want and keep working it till you get it (whatever it is, spores or pinning or lc or whatever it is you want). Life is a learning experience wrapped in a journey. So grow them both.
