How long does the cacti-liquid last for?
    #6036672 -

Hello all,

My buddy is thinking about ordering a cuttling of a San Pedro cacti and using this extraction procedure: http://www.erowid.org/plants/cacti/cacti_preparation5.shtml

He is curious how long the end-result liquid can be kept for until the psychoactive chemicals become inactive, and if they should be kept in a fridge or at room temp.

Cheers,

-N

In the fridge it will last at least a week.

In room temp I wouldn't drink it after a day, 2 at the very max. But I've smelt some bad 2-day old brew before.

Ah, and it has nothing to do with the activity of the chemicals, it simply ferments and becomes completely disgusting, though surely active.

Could you freeze it?

I'm going to make san pedrosicles.

Freezing works, it'll last quite a long time that way.

San Pedro popsicles do sound sweet. It's just too bad they wouldn't be literally. Maybe add some lemon juice to help with that.

I was actually able to boil the liquid down even further last weekend and my gf and I dosed on Sunday night. Unfortunately we totally pussed out and I was only able to drink half a cup of that wretched shit (the taste is god awful) but this weekend I will probably consume the rest, the mild trip I encountered on Sunday was very pleasent and relaxing. Thanks for all your help during the prep

Well, like KK said, I guess 4 hours or more of boiling time won't hurt anything. I just prefer to keep it to around 2 since I like to stir the stuff almost constantly. 4 hours of stirring would make your arm numb I think.

But I'm glad you were able to enjoy yourself even despite the taste. That's cool too that your gf was in on it. The only way my gf could possibly try it is if she didn't have to taste it. 'Cause she'll get a gag reaction just from seeing something gross. So I may have to resort to drying and pulverizing. Anyway, be well and good luck with the rest.

My gf was into trying it but really couldn't brave the taste so didn't drink much. Actually, the problem for me was I was told to consume the drink in about a 30 min window to avoid shocking your nervous system. I found it difficult to sustain drinking this liquid, I would have been much easier to chug it right away and avoid prolonging the nasty taste. How do others feel about this? Can you just drink it right away or is it best to pace yourself?

Also what are other methods of ingestion to limit the taste?

Pace yourself but keep some snack food or something to smoke nearby for between chugs. That's what I find works best.

In my personal experince... much better to just down the crap. With every sip it gets worse. I found that if I never taste the stuff and as soon as it is ready I just totaly down the whole batch it isn't that unpleasant. If you are like me though and enjoy tasting stuff as you cook it... it will be very hard to get down.

Im familiar with lemon juice, or other acidic juices, aiding in increasing the potency of mushrooms, but does this also work with eating psychoactive cacti?

Also, an above post mentioned one needs to pace themselves when drinking the boiled cacti liquid to avoid shocking your central nervous system... where is this information pulled from, and how many mL of cacti liquid is a typical dose?

A while back, I was shown by a shaman in the desert north of real de catorce how to make the peyote buttons we had found into a liquid. We sat in a circle, pulling the buttons apart at the ribs. and plucking every group of tufts, and the large cluster of hairs in the middle of the button. Peyote ddoes not have that hard cuticle, the color of the outer flesh is at a more saturated gradient as the tissues move closer to the vascular system. I ground the pieces up in a large dimpled bowl using a cone shaped hand stone as a crushing instrument (mortar and pestle) After a pulp was made, the liquid was strained through handkerchiefs repeteadly until pretty much dry. I knew to take in the alkaloids over at least a 30 minute window, so i decided to do it in 4 good chugs,at 0-10-25-40. Gotta get it down if you want to trip.. I used diluted pinapple soda to kill the bitter. i think the practice of the mortar and pestle works best, as i have found that it works better than a juicer or boiling chunks of san pedro. Yeah ive fed san pedro green flesh right into the ol jack lelane power juicer, a nice pulp free taste of dirt

I like to freeze em before i go camping so that by the end of a long hike, preferably into sedonas redrock mountains, The yacktus is still nice and fresh.

heres a fun tip for cactus tar lets say you want to put your tar into a 10 dram or 5 dram bottle. Simply add how many drams of water to the evaporation vat and your final product will when fully evaporated will be a black liquid instead of tar. Easy to drink, store, easier to measure to split between 2 or 3 people or what ever also its not so damn sticky so you can put it in a vial. PS make sure that the final product is only water and cactus tar you dont want any iso

I've read that lemon juice will aid in the process of extracting the mescaline. Whether or not this is true I'm not sure.
