Type of Wood?

Im gonna try to make a chillum out of wood, and i was just wondering if i can use any type of wood from like my back yard? or do i have to buy special pipe wood.... because wont the wood also burn along with the weed in my bowl? i dont wanna smoke wood shavings....

you need a very dense wood, I'd prefer ipe, aka brazilian cherry, it's not that
expensive, a couple dollars a foot but it may be hard to find, the ideal wood
for pipes and such is briarwood burl, it's got an awesome grain patern, more common
is hard maple or birdseye maple, both dense an the birdseye is pretty, the problem
with these woods is that you'll need to hit up a place that deals in wood for wood
workers, alternatively, you could call cabinet shops and ask if they have any 8/4
(eight quarter) maple or other hardwoods, they can at least hook you up with a supplier


the problem with 'back yard' woods, some could be toxic like cedar or they can contain fatwood which is flamable.

would they have that type at home-depot or something along those lines? or does it have to be a specialty wood store?
