Maximum temperature for P. somniferum
    #6012345 -

I tried to keep a batch of young poppies alive through the summer here, and they didn't make it.

It seems that the intense heat of the california summer weakened the poppies, and then an aphid attack finished them off.

I need to know what kind of temperatures they can handle on a regular basis, so I know when to make some starts.

I bought some peat pots, so I can potentially grow the starts in a better environment, and transplant them when they're older and hardier... but I'd like to know when I can do that.

I was going to wait for fall to come, but if I can plant earlier than that then I would certainly like to.

I have heard they don't like hot weather however a friend had some that handled a hot spell of 100-107 degrees that lasted for almost two weeks.

Turkey has many poppy farms, I beleive... but turkey is mediterrannean. My region of California has a Mediterrannean climate.

So... if there's a certain season for poppies in turkey, there would be a similar season for california.
