This is the first "look how lame these kids look" emo video I saw, the one you posted is better, but this is still funny in its own little way.

The thing I sincerely hate about "emo" is the way that it's tried to ride on the coattails of punk. Nothing aobut the music or the scene is "punk" in fact I think it's the antithesis of "punk". In the words of Lars "hot topic is not punk rock" just because your t-shirt say you like the exploited or anti-flag does not make you a part of a scene that actually has purpose and meaning, a scene believes in some ideals of what the world should be like. Besides the t-shirt you wear next year will probably be from the gap or something. gag!

were any of you a punk rocker, a gangsta, a preppy, a goth or a freak?  perhaps a hippy or a jock?

its just another way for people to categorize themselves because they (sic: everybody) find it necessary to feel superior to other humans.

what a great way to feel good about yourself!  you can either, be different, classify yourself as something "else", or you can stoop to the other level of demeaning other people.

Category, genre, scene have nothing to do with it, you can dress however the fuck you want!

its when you think you're better than other humans because of the way you dress, or the way they dress or the music they listen to, THATS when it becomes an segregation issue, THATS when it becomes the same thing  as racism or hate. 

when it is simply people banding together to try and create there own culture, which I'm sure every one of you has done, on a small or large scale at some point in your life.

corporate America?
metal heads?
underground hip hoppers?
EMO kids?

its all the fucking same.


humor is amazing, but when its making generalizations about people for doing the same things culturally that you probably did or are in fact, still doing, then its not humor any more, its just demeaning and promotes holier than thou attitudes and hate in the most extreme circumstances.

It all sounds and looks good on paper/internet/etc. Never works. It's the culture we live in. We're conditioned to look for the outsider and make a stab at them. I'm not trying to justify what I do. I don't need to.

Emokids listen to emo music.

Emo started out as "post-punk," a sort of retalliation to the sceney aaardcore punk music of the lat 80's.
It was basically punk, but without being all about pushing in litsos and such.

Late nineties, I guess, guys started dying their hair black and wearing girl's pants ("down with the scene" attempt, one might say). These vecks started making slow, dreary, whiny pop-punk, called it emo, and a trend was born.

I reckon that's a pretty solid explanation.
