When I was a freshman I wanted to do Chemical Engineering (I'm doing straight chemistry now). Chemical engineers are employed where ever chemicals are used large scale. They get paid well I thing the average starting salary is about 50K-60K. As for what they actually do this is how I see it. A Chemist discovers something and a Chemical engineer applies it, if that makes sense.

50-60k is the low end of what your start-up salary will be. In NC at Wyeth, they start their chem. engineers at 75k for people fresh out of college. Pretty bad-ass if you ask me.

Me....I am going for Civil engineering and perhaps doubling in mechanical.

wow, sounds great. When my uncle was over from Alberta, Canada he said there are a lot of job prospects for chemical engineers over there.
I have also heard it is one of, if not 'the', hardest degrees to do at university.

I started college wanting to be a chemical engineer... then I realized what chemical engineers do and I wanted no part of it.

Other engineers joke about chemical engineers being the accounts of the science world. All it is is flow rates and energy, mass and heat balances.

I changed to Material Science and Engineering. It's great. I make new materials everyday.
