After sampling some utterly rancid 9-year-old parsnip wine some dude's grandad made at a festival last weekend, I was thinking to myself it would be pretty cool to brew some of my own wines or spirits and i've read posts from a few people here who claim to do it, so i was wondering if anyone could tell me how one gets started making one's own booze? Do you have to spend money on one of those home brewing kits or is it possible using household items/ingredients? Is it an easy thing to do? Apologies for my n00bism!

Kits probably actually make it easier if you just want to try, a little beer/wine making.
There are actual physical stores that sell supplies, and the owners are usually helpful.
