I'm a homebrewer myself. A few good websites are northernerbrewer.com. they carry loads of good equipment. a good website for ingredients is austinhomebrewer.com. they carry all kind of clone kits to make clones of your favorite brew. also, start brewing all grain. extract brewing is cheap but you cut corners with the overall quality and taste.

Most of those kits are just overpriced in my book man.  its easy to many of the things you might need, and aquire the rest cheaply.  I made my own transfer bucket, took no time.

Watch craigslist for carboys, i find them there all the time, usually for about 25 bucks for a 5 gallon, 30 or so for a 6 gallon, and half the time they already have a thermometer strip and a handle hooked up on them, saving a few more bucks.

that book by Charlie Papazian, the complete joy of homebrewing is a good start for a newb, really takes you step by step through  the process.

and definitely go all grain, its so much better, especially if you enjoy full flavored beers.

and you will need a big ass stainless steel cook pot.  make sure you dont use aluminum, really bad idea.  i'd suggest maybe buying a used outdoor turkey deepfryer, great for making beer, or doing up a turkey.

you can get into the whole intense siphoning systems later, they really arent that important, until you start really cranking out the beer.

That's what i was thinking about the kits. To me it would be like buying a PF tek kit.... I'm in North Dakota so there isn't shit for home brewing stores. Most of my supplies will come from online i imagine. Thanks for the info tho ill have to go through the sites and dig out what I think I can use.

Well yes they are over priced because they include the labor that was put into them. Yes you will find making one yourself much cheaper

brewing is really easy.

the easiest way to do beer is to buy a beer kit,  you can buy those "coopers" cans of barley extract type stuff for like $15 and they will do 5 gallons - i wouldnt call that expensive

After that its really just as easy as adding your *juice* with some sugar and yeast and letting it sit.

The hardest part is probably bottling your brew properly to get the right level of carbonation,  but even that is pretty easy.

That is a way it can be done. You could also take some apple juice and throw some bread in there and let it ferment under your bed for 2 weeks.
Both will taste like garbage.

All grain brewing is the best way to go. For $40 and some time and dedication, you can make 5 gallons of QUALITY craft brew. Stuff that cost $10-$15 a 6 pack in a store.

Drink 12 4-packs of Grolsch.  Then you don't need the bottle capping mechanism either.  That is what I did, and I have used the Grolsch bottles 3 times or so to no ill effect.  It gets really cheap after you have all the equipment that you need.  Recently I did a double fermentation on fresh pressed apple cider and let it ferment for about 3 months.  I ended up with apple wine that is sort of like champagne.  Good stuff.

Why do you say that? If you oxidize the aluminum pot first, there should be no problems. Also, it exchanges heat much faster and is cheaper. I use aluminum and would recommend it to beginners.

I agree that all-grain brewing should be the eventual goal, but to say that extract brewing produces garbage is straight hyperbole. Particularly if you steep a pound or two of specialty grains, then you can get a real nice beer for minimal effort. Malt extracts are simple, easy to ship, and there is wide variety of types
available, dark to light, wheat to barley, dry or wet.

Honestly, I haven't saved very much money in this hobby. I have developed a taste and appreciation for finer beers, so now I'm spoiled. I'm constantly refining my techniques, which leads to new equipment. I love giving away my brews. And grain (or extract) is always gonna cost something. Plus it takes energy to heat (and possibly cool) the wort and lots of water for cleaning and such. I do think you should get into brewing, as I think it is one of the most enjoyable hobbies I have pursued, but it's not going to make you thinner or richer.

P.S.
