could a few of you do me a favor?

i feel as if my respiratory rate (and possibly also heart rate) may be abnormally high. i've looked up normal respiratory rates on the internet and most sites say 14-20 breaths per minute is normal for an adult at rest (14-18 according to some sites). these numbers seem low to me and i want to see what you guys get if you measure yours. so the favor i want you to do is simple, simply count the number of times you breath in, in one minute and post your result. of course, you can also count the number of times you breath out or the number of times your diaphram expands.
if you feel like helping me out even more, id also like it if you would measure your pulse while sitting down, then stand up abruptly and immediately take your pulse again. take it for 30 seconds and multiply by two. then post both of your results (sitting down and standing up). i would really apreciate it if a few people would do this for me so i could compare our results.

Breaths per minute = 18
Resting heartbeat = 64 After standing = 76
( if you feel nervous when your taking your pulse it'll be higher than it normally is, sometimes just thinking about it can speed it up )

breaths - 14 pulse - 70 standup/sitdown-74
my pulse is wacky it goes pretty fast then it suddenly slows nicely down. it's like my counting it influences its behavior or something.
one of the best things you can do for your health is breathe deeply. http://www.shout.net/~jmh/clinic/science_of_breath/

you only breath seven times a minute? are you sure that's right? that's way below normal.

check out that link i gave you man. maybe you are breathing really shallow and you have respiratory problems, if so this is a great way to fix it, and it greatly helps your heart and your bodies circulation too!

Respirations/min is 8-9
Sitting pulse: 62 After standing: 76
My pulse changes speed depending upon where in my breath cycle I am. Upon inspiration, it speeds up a bit, and upon expiration, it slows down quite a lot.
7/min is not terribly abnormal if he breathes deeply, I can comfortably breathe at 3/min if relaxed.

yeah but we weren't we supposed to be paying attention to the breath in its default state?
if you do deep breathing then you could easily only do a few breaths a minute.

Not speaking of conscious control, but of simply having a greater average breath volume then most.I made the remark about 3/min simply to put into perspective the average volume compared to the possible breath volume.
Though, I suppose, if one wanted no mental messing with breath rate, it would be more appropriate to have shroomerites check the respirations of house-mates without telling them, then check their pulse.

5 PM my time
6 1/2 breaths per minute, pulse 59 sitting/61 standing
By breaths I mean 7 inhales and 6 exhales in this case, at 1 minute I had just finished my 7th inhale.
All I can say is I am athletic and have a high lung capacity and am able to breath deeply and slowly and still get my oxygen.
5:30 edit 7 breaths per minute, 58 bpm pulse, blood pressure 113/65
I find it interesting you doubt the 7 breaths per minute, it is obviously my resting rate but I can assure you not out of line with what I normally breath at. Part of breath control is consistency and that means awareness of breath and practice.

i only doubted it cause it was so low, anything below 10 or over 24 is considered abnormal. im extremely worried about why mine is so high. my heart rate also jumps a lot more than your guys's when i stand up. it can go from 60 bmp to 90 bpm.

You must be breathing shallowly,, ive never heard about breath intake being a health issue unless your struggling to breath.
90 bpm on your heart rate isn't a prob as long as it settles down again.. 60 at resting is healthy..

Do you consume any caffeine? eliminate it completely and see if your breathing returns to normal. Caffeine makes me breathe shallowly and quickly, but I'm pretty sensitive to it.

Check out what I found online http://www.medhelp.org/forums/cardio/messages/33301a.html It sounds like you may have "postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome" or POTS. Briefly this is a condition where the heart rate elevates inappropriately on standing. It is usually diagnosed by history and a tilt-table test. Treatment may be with life-style modifications such as rising slowly from a seated position, support stockings and/or with medications such as beta-blockers.
The 30 bpm rise you experience from 60 bpm sitting to 90 bpm standing is typical of someone with POTS.
Here's a good reference, POTS Place:

thanks guys, i have decided to see a doctor. i believe these problems were brought on by my prior marijuana use as i recently found out that marijuana can cause postural hypotension. here is the article if anyone is interested:
