Scleroderma areolatum!

Weeeeell, I wasn't gonna post this little guy... but I thought I'd show off my nails.  :wink:

There is nothing else to find around So Cal anyway, cept for these heat resistent mushrooms. 
I like the black and white spotted interior spore flesh of these mushrooms.  It's very interesting.

My friend saw me leaving a store, and ran up and smothered me, I then presented them with this specimen...
They said "What the hell is that thing?!"
"A mushroom."
"....are you sure?"
"yes."

oh and in your pix the ones that look black and weird they i believe are dead mans fingers or some sort of tongue.

Corporal Kielbasa, they are puffball mushrooms. The latin name is Scleroderma areolatum.

Does this have anything to do with the puffballs? Because what you are referring to is Xyalaria polymorpha or Xylaria longipes. They are called "Earth tongues", they are not puffballs.

Sorry if the connection is clear, but I am out of it.
