Rant: The Streets

I've listened to hip hop and rap my whole life. I like all kinds of it from gangsta to alt-whiteboy rap. I like all kinds of electronica. I like mash ups of electronica and hip hop beats and I regularly can get into lyrics over said mash ups.

But I think the streets is unbearable. It is sooo bad the first time I hear a new track I seriously think it is a comedy bit on a morning drive-time radio show. I find nothing pleasant or enjoyable about this crap. I find nothing original or engaging...The flow, the production, the beats, the lyrics.....I have no idea why i even have heard of the streets or why there is a somewhat large fan base.

Maybe I am missing something...is this some kind of tongue-in-cheek farce that is so deep I can't understand it? Am I alone? Does anybody else feel this way? I'm really confused right now...

Maybe if it wasnt so monotone. Even then i dont know....

I like english 'accents' though.

Heh are you American? I also cant stand the Streets aka Mike Skinner, but I can see why the English like him so much. He's basically the first of his kind, a completely English "rapper", "keeping it real" by talking about London, smoking weed, trying to get laid, being broke, on the dole...in a way he's made his own kind of rap (Im reluctant to call it "rap", certainly far from hiphop) music thats suppose to represent his country.

I think it all sounds pish. Espcially when he got all up himself on his success and started trying to write real songs  :banghead:  :flipthebird:
