Straight-Up Weird Electronica
    #3985098 - 03/29/05 02:12 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Any suggestions for the most off-the-wall, wacky electronica? Something with a playful mood. I want something that when I play, everyone in the room stops and collectively goes, "WTF?"

ah. You are looking for Mouse on Mars. Try and find the songs "Albion Rose", "Pinweel Herman", or "Catching Butterflies with Hand"

Most wacky, goofy electronic music I've ever heard.

Haha, Mouse on Mars is a good call man. That shit is wierd as hell. Sometimes unpleasantly wierd, sometimes not.

It's a crapshoot.

Violet Vision can get a little wacky sometimes.  They have a song called Fingering Nuns on Mars.  Its pretty good.  Check em out.

i dunno, i think the residents are by far THE wierdest group ever.

thier early works like "duck stab/buster and glenn", "third reich and roll", "fingerprince" are by far THE wierdest shit you'll ever hear. it's so wierd that it used to honestly FRIGHTEN me severly when i was a kid (like 3rd and 4th grade). that's what i liked about them tho. i would put them on and go bezerk in my room.

find me someone wierder than the residents, i double dog dare ya! i havent heard anything yet that gets wierder than those guys. they make merzbow seem like an attention whore, makes venetian snares seem like a overbudgeted horror flick with too much cg effects, makes pansonic seem like a boring feelgood flick featuring a mute robin williams.

you MUST try to find some Haltya, or Ubar Tmar. the first is insanely wacky weird and playful, and the second is by FAR the most insane weirdo stuff from another dimension... those 2 are the weirdest by far ive ever heard yet

Holy shit! There's a name I haven't heard in forever. Are they still around? I was over a friend of mine's apartment years ago and he showed me some video of their act. It reminds me of a cross between performance art and Throbbing Gristle.

Speaking of which.. check out THROBBING GRISTLE... it's a 70's industrial group which set the stage for all the big industrial bands... it's not really rock as much as it experimental shit set to a beat.

Ever hear of Negativland? Its kind of comical and vocal and definately unconventional. Check it out.
Also, thanks for the suggestions. I love experimenting with wierd music.

Peace

yes, dr?n is excellent. "eve shores" is my favorite.

Although I must say - I do not find trance to be "straight-up weird" - it all sounds like the music they play in tv commericals or trendy clubs (boring and generic). trance artists should stop being "trance artists" and just make music without that cliche boomboomboom format.
