I've got a projection big screen and also recently picked up a medium sized (32") flat panel TV. But wouldn't it just be easier to grab a tape measure and go to your nearest electronics store?

Well... If I was you I would figure out the exact TV you are going to purchase before you do this.
I also recommend going with a LCoS or DLP TV if you do get one. You will be happier in the long run.
Sony sxbrs are suppose to be the top of the line right now. I would get 50 inch or larger. If you want something smaller go with plasma. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDe...CT&cm_keycode=4
Oh also if possible go with something that can do 1080p. Not 1080i. That way you are prepared for the future and your tv isn't obsolete in a few years.

At the moment, few TV's can accept a native 1080p signal (most simply upconvert to 1080p).
There is no good answer to this question as all TV's are different sizes and dimensions. FOr instance, many projection TV's (LCD, DLP and RPTV's) come on a stand. I have a 50" plasma which only came with a "Tabletop" stand. In addition the 4 inch depth of my TV is different than say, the 16 inches or son on many rear-projection TV's.
It would be best to wait until you know what you're getting.

try building it so that you can use up to a 60' plasma, fill the void with DVD/CD racks that are removable

thanks for the responses guys. yeah the only problem with waiting untill i get one is that im going to build the entertainment center at least a year before i get one (for money reasons). i was just wanting some deminsions, and i guess that i should have included with a stand. but as to tothesummit it wouldnt be easier for me to drive to the store, that would involve me getting off my ass and i must say i quite enjoy the time i get to chill. the thought is coming to me to build the removable part excessivly large and when its time to replace it with a big screen i will just put it in there and build around it. but yeah i got some plans floating around just now so thanks for that much guys, peace.

after reading that post, you can make the racks modular, to hold speakers and DVDs I did something similar a few years ago for a friend

alright i think i get what our saying. this thing is gong to be more than a typical entertainment center. its going to be a entertainment center/ book cases/ dvd holder/ display/ cabinet space on the bottom. ill go try to draw what im thinking real fast. just remember that its still a work in progress in my head.

If you hold shift while you draw a line in paint it will make sure the line is straight. The pic works for me though.

An entertainment center for a sixty foot plasma tv? You're gonna need a crane.

thats pretty much an entertainmet center, mine was 5 units, the center had a lower cabinet for console games, and the VCR (it wasnt used much), also extra storage. above was the TV, Satelite control and DVD player (a shelf above the TV) On each side were open cabinets that held DVDs, CDs, stereo and stuff, then were 2 additional open cabinets for books and such
each unit got a little shorter, about 6 inches, from the center which was 7', and also got narrower by about a foot, the center was 56" wide, that keept the proportions correct, it weighed about 900lbs complete
this is as close as I could find through google, if I can find the pics or sketches I'll post them, this is similar in width but they dont stager theirs
