I like having a TV and I find the whole thing really interesting, including the ads.

I don't think not watching TV makes you any better off, or shields you from any kind of brainwashing. Lots of the most intelligent, skeptical, and questioning people I know watch television.

maybe canoodian tv is different than american.. I dont know
but TV in general to me is a brain-numbing radiation box, not to mention if they put stupid senseless shit on it to warp your sense of reality. In my opinion 90% of TV is mental programming.. social programming. Maybe there's a few good things here and there, cartoons and comedy central sometimes and informative channels like discovery come to mind.. but overall I find watching TV to be a mentally .. spiritually draining activity.

It's probably been about 5 years since I've owned a TV.. but I can't help watching others sometimes. I enjoy a few shows, but the majority of the time what I watch on TV is utter shit.

My first two years in Japan I didn't have a TV or a computer. I hardly even read the paper. I just read novels and listened to cds and cassettes. Then I bought a TV but mostly I just watched porn videos. Then I got satellite TV with CNN and Fox and stuff. I watched it like crazy for awhile but now I prefer the Internet. TV is too censored to be very entertaining. If it was anything goes like the Internet I'd watch it all the time I'm sure.

It's been over a year since I've had TV.  I decided that cable internet was more important.  The only TV I've watched in the past year is at someone else's house or shows that I've downloaded on the net.  I'm not as informed about the world and popular culture, but I'm not as angry either.

Anyone else not have TV beside me?

You bet. Best choice ever. I get so much more done and really enjoy not worrying about things I have no control over. IMO TV just keeps you down. :mushroom2:

i think tv in europe is quite different than tv in the us, in my experience. i've got a tv at the place where i live now (one of my roomates, i guess?) but rarely watch it - every once in a while when i'm eating lunch, or if there is a movie on in the evenings and i've got nothing else to do. i most certainly wouldn't spend any money on a tv at all - anything that i really want to watch i download anyhow - but if there is already one there, and i don't have to pay anything for it, i'll channel surf every now and again.

Most people get hooked on TV. It is often used as a subsitute for living or as a way to block things out. The constant inane dialog interrupeted every few minutes by commercials at a different volume level, wreaks havoc on the nervous system IMO. But TV in and of itself is not bad.

Occassionally when I'm bored I'll check PBS to see if NOVA or something cool is on.

Not often though.

And I like to watch college sports in season, but that's in my blood, so no getting around it

i've never watched much TV.

I enjoy cartoons.

Since moving out of my parent's place over a decade ago I have never had a cable/sat/etc bill.

I download cartoons and cool shows and watch them using my Xbox.

I find the large majority of TV VERY irritating.

All you people talk about seeing TV over a friend's place. I find a group of people who have gathered to be sociable but yet mindlessly stare at a TV for hours to be a great travesty.

hehehe i'd lie and give some crazy ass opinion just to see if they quote it.

"Mark Furhmann, on the question of the israeli settlement retreats, told our reporters - 'I believe the only road to peace in that region is to have Sharon perform a public goatse impersonation and allow any palestinians who feel grieved by his government the opportunity to stick random objects in his anus'"
