How do you remove hundreds of aborts from a bulk grow?
    #5873195 -

Or is it even worth the trouble? I litteraly have hundreds of pins that aborted. Strain is OI without a casing.

And why are these fruits so damn SMALL for Orissa's? 5in deep stud, 75 quart tub.

Aborts caps turn black or blue from what I understand. They don;t look black or blue.

Those have not aborted yet, and might not.

They "stalled".

Reasons could be numerous.

Lack of moisture, low Rh, low FAE, low light cycle, temperature, etc.

I would wager, the substrate was not fully colonized.
Then, exposed to fruiting conditions.
Top layer fruited, without the benefit of the rest of the substrate being capable of providing enough nutrients, and moisture.

Let them go a few days. If they remained stalled.

Harvest the whole thing.

Sprinkle new casing mix lightly over the top, incubate in darkness 2 or 3 days, then expose them to fruiting conditions again.

The second flush could/should be whoppers.

What's the point of those pics if they arn't of what you're talking about?

If you're questionable about the aborts, post those -the pins pictures do no help but to confuse.

If you have a lot of aborts, actual aborts -get them out of there so that the substrate and moisture provides for the 'good ones' instead of those.

It's not like you can suck them all off....you'll have to pick them out. I would wait until all the rest are finished fruiting then work on getting the aborts out of there. Pick what you can by hand, and use tweezers if necessary.

I could be wrong, but I think since they aborted...they wont be sucking up moisture or nutrients anymore. If they still were, they would be growing. I asked a similar question about a week ago and the general consensus was to leave them until I harvested the rest....they wont rot by then.

But as they are 'aborting' and not fully 'aborted' would they not still be consuming resources?

When they are 'aborted' do resources still circulate? I thought so.

Like I said, I could be wrong. It just dosen't make much sense to me that something that aborted (died) would continue to hog resources. Hogging resources, to me, would mean that it was alive, and growing.

Many new growers have wiped out their second and third flushes by picking off all the 'aborts' along with fruits from first flush.

The fact is, many mushroom species, cubensis among them, set the primordia for the first three and sometimes fourth flushes at the time pins for the first flush are set. If you pick these pins off, you destroy your project. As said above, aborts are black. If yours are anything but black, leave them be.

Damn boy, pay attention. I posted the pics for my SECOND concern. Why the fruits are so small, not about the aborts, sheesh.
Thanks RR, most of the pins are covered in myc, so Ill have to gently wipe them to see what color they are I guess.
