Double Tubs - Can you substitue polyfill wads with layers of tyvek?

Having used mono tubs for years, with a few holes poked in the top, I came across eatyualive's Double Tub thread.
He uses wads of polyfill to stuff the eight 1" holes, to provide contam free FAE.
My question is, Can you use tyvek, or synthetic filter discs as a substitute for polyfill? I have both, but I HATE the way polyfill bulges inside and outside the container. I figure, if it works just as well, why not just use 2 layers of tyvek, one on the inside and one on the outside.
Has anyone experimented with this? Im assuming if it was a problem, it would have to do with letting too much/too little air exchange.
Any comments would be appreciated.

i've always wondered this too as I just harvested my first monotub
instead of holes couldnt you just have a small rectange removed right above where the substrate is
and just cover it with a coffee filter or something?
i hate the way polyfill bulges too

i don't see any reason why that would be a problem Im going to use tyvek on mine personally. It's alot cleaner looking.

tyvek might not let enough air through

that is the only thing to worry about, I would not use 2 layers. I have a few tubs so i guess maybe i will just do one with tyvek and the others the good ol fashioned polyfill way.

Well, I have used mono tubs for years, just poking a small hole with a nail every inch or so around the perimeter of the bin's lid. No filter or anything.
Im interested in double tubs, because the positioning of the holes uses convection to create air exchange, which along with the larger interior space, creates huge healthy shrooms.
I have experimented with removing one large hole in the lid as you said, and it doesnt work well at all.

Tyvek may not let enough air through and coffe filters are organic so thats not a good idea either. But I think you can get away with tyvek just fine, maybe make alittle bigger whole or more smaller ones or something, should be fine.
