(1). What do the Lumens do, do you want high lumens or low lumens?

(2). My buddy has an 85 watt flouresent with 3200 Lumens.. Good or Bad..

(1) lumens are good, you want high lumens

(2) your buddys floros blow, get a bunch of T8 4'ers. Or wait for the T5 ballests to come down in price.

Lumens are for visible light, PAR is rarely used, but is for plant use.

Rah is correct in general, but only because manufacturers list there lights in Lumens rather than PAR's

its a sylvanna jsut liek the link u gave me, and i found that before i checked up on the post ehre, sounds good to me..
It says it puts out jsut as much shit as a 300watt but saves energy

also that light can give me 1,333 days of 12/12 or 666days of 24/0... eitherway i think that would be enough for a couple grows at different times... This is what im buying... its HPS, it put out jstu as much shit as a 300watt even though its only 70... Its hella fucking cheap, scraws intoa light socket, no ballast needed.... I think im getting hooked up, I also have a 10.00 Lighting Timer, that i can use, i jstu plug it into the wall, plug the lamp into the timer thingy, and set the dial, and then 12/12, or w/e i want

it helps to know what your growing.
your light lookjs good for cacti and such, but if its weed
your gonne need alot more then that.

your florescant tubes sound good to me, there just too weak for weed.
if u want good yield u need serious lights.

im not sure about that bulb, i strongly advise u wait for replies on that before u buy one.
i suspect its about equal to 36 watts of florescant tube, like energy savers (they advertise them in a similar fashin here).

the timer thingy is a good idea though.

That bulb will not run in a standard socket, it's a replacement bulb for HPS security lights which have a ballast. No HPS bulbs will run in a standard socket.

The claim that it will put out the same as a 300W bulb is rediculous.

Stop messing around, save some money and buy a real 400 or 600w light and ballast.

That link doesn't work for me, but just cause the bulb fits in a regular socket doesnt mean it doesnt need a ballast.

With a ballast, you could use that to grow MJ, but the light wont penetrate the canopy well, so you need to ScrOG them.

But fuck 70W, I bet you could get a 150W or 250W HPS 'security light' for 50-$75 dollars.

yes when i called them, they said they have 400W HPS for 28.00s and a ballast for another 20.00s or so. Im jsut going to the website, which doesnt handle what they said they had

Ok, let me try this again, if you go with hardware store cheap crap your gonna get hardware store cheap results. Hardware store bulbs will work (not that 70watt chunk of crap or every grower would be using them) but don't have the spectrum of a grow bulb and it shows when the plant grows.

A $15 reflector is gonna be some real bullshit. And if this is gonna be a cabinet grow, then you'll need an air cooled reflector hood for 1000w. I learned a similar lesson recently. There is no cheap way out, calab. Unless you're not shooting for quality buds to smoke. But that's kinda the whole point of this all I would think.

1000w lights suck, they produce far too much heat, stick with 400's or 600's.
