I just got a tarot deck

Aquarian, I believe (but I don't believe I spelled that right), and I'm wondering if there's any order in suits or how to set the cards up before shuffling

There is no order. You just shuffle and pick.

The reading depends on what answers you're looking for, which layout you choose and which cards come up.

Then you interpret it from there.

The odd thing is I got this not to tell fortunes, but to research a book I'm writing (modern interpretation of the metaphorical journey based on the major arcana cards)

A typical set of tarot cards include 4 suits, 22 tarot trumps, and 56 major and minor arcana for a total of 78 cards. There are many new decks created by people that don't understand the matter and theirfore are more or less inaccurate with the symbology. I am not aware of the deck you speak of, so I couldn't say. I recommend looking up Aleister Crowley - Book of thoth, you should be able to find it online. That will at least give you some idea of universal symbolism imbedded in the tarot. The most important thing of course is to interpet the meaning for yourself after serious thought. This is done by using what are called spreads. You will find plenty of information qutie easily by a quick internet search.

The Osho Zen Tarot. The deck is gorgeous and if you are familiar with Osho's writings then you might find the readings to be very insightful. Though it is not exactly traditional, it does have both the major and minor arcana, plus the Master card which adds up to a total of seventy-nine cards. It's a great deck, i highly recommend it. :wink:
