I think that my dog is going blind........ :(

this is so sad...

I walked in today, and as usual got 2 little treats to toss to her, she has always caught them mid air. so i toss her one and she dosent move, it just bounces off of her nose... but when it falls she cant seem to find it ...

so i toss her another one and its the same deal, no catch, cant find it on the ground...

so i sit down with her, and feed her the treats, and she puts her paw on my lap, somthing she never does...

im kinda scared, and sad. she has had troubble walking for some time now and im just afraid of the inevatible

That advice depends on how much pain the dog is in, i'd rather get a dog put down than see it drag itself around by the front legs because it's hips are gone.

I would do it for my Grandma, and anyone else I cared about. And I'd hope they'd do the same for me. Why be forced to endure suffering just to extend your life for a short time, especially when there's no enjoyment to be had during that time? IMO euthanasia to end suffering is the most humane act.

However, blindness does not necessarily constitute suffering. A dog can make adjustments and live quite happily after going blind, especially with an owner who cares for them properly.

Two of my dogs are 15. It's hard when they become seniors :frown: I've dealt with cataracts, arthritis, etc

I wouldn't euthanize either of them for my convenience, but if it would put them out of misery from something serious & irreversable, I would not feel very much regret for my decision.

Putting a pet down was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I hope none of y'all have to go through that. :smile:

It sounds like she's losing her sense of smell too. :crazy:

m00nshine is currently vacationing in Maui. Rumor has it he got rolled by drunken natives and is currently prostituting himself in order to pay for airfare back to the mainland but he's having trouble juggling a hairon addiction. He won't be back for a long while.

My Uncle had a dog go blind. He got a seeing eye dog for it. They would run thur the house together.You would not know that dog was blind unless you looked at the eyes.

Take her to the vet man. She might just be sick... maybe that's why she's acting funny? (i.e. not up to catching stuff)

If she is going blind, then maybe the vet can do something. Can't they give her stuff to slow things like cararacts? Even if they can't do anything, atleast you tried and you're only down a couple bucks. And a couple bucks is a small price to pay for peace of mind that you did what you could.
