Sorry, but this is too little information to be able to identify it.

I can tell what it isn't, and that would be cubensis.

....I understand that you informed us to the "best of your ability", but do you seriously expect us to be able to affirm a species ID with "It looks exactly like a cube, found in grass, and has a gold top"? Based on this assumption, I'd say your judgement of what looks exactly like Psilocybe cubensis is fallible.
Sorry if this is harsh... but what sort of ID super powers do you think we have?? Try and get a pic next time, You probably found an Agaric.

Some Agrocybe species look a bit like miniature cubensis and they are common in grass... Please don’t eat strange unidentified mushrooms even if they look like cubensis.

Thanks George, thats more along the helpfull lines i was aiming for.
You'd think in a psychedelic community most people would be above petty flaming and if they couldn't help someone they wouldn't speak up. I KNOW there was a lack of information in the post, i even stated this, but it was all i was given and perhaps someone in the area they were found would have a good idea... it was atleast worth a try.
And NO, he did not eat them. He isn't a retard, information on mushrooms is somewhat impossible for him to obtain at the moment.
