Newblet question - brown stripes down stipe - spore print viable?
    #5774773 - 06/20/06 11:35 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I've been trolling these forums for a while and i'd like to say thanks to all the contributing members of this site, with out it i wouldn't have been able to grow anything.

I have a question regarding these brown stripes running vertically up the stipes of a few mushrooms. I've read that this could be indicative of Verticillium infections. Would this posibility mean i shouldnt take spore prints of any of these mushrooms, due to the possibility of Verticillium infection carrying over to the spore print? Or is this not correct? This is my first attempt at growing and i'm still pretty unsure about everything i'm doing, but im trying to learn.

The strain is B+ on pf cakes with a 60/40 vermiculite/coir casing w/ oyster shell flower.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Looks normal to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

The prints will be fine. Even if they had bacteria, live bacteria is killed by drying.

I'm having the same thing happen to me. B+, first time grow. I'm thinkin it might be a sign the cake is almost spent. I had two flushes that were "normal", nice white stipes. Then on this third one its like...they picked up chain smoking and are all wrinkled and stained.

Is this how yours were from the get go or was it after a few flushes too?

I know this is an old post, but for newbees, I think you should know that its common in Ecuadorian strains, its not a big deal, unless the mushrooms look sick, but for the most part they are perfectly fine.
