My Poppy Garden, When to Seperate?

Its been awhile since the start of the poppies.

Theyre mostly hens and chickens and theres one plant that is the biggest with about 3-4 lettuce leaves thats grouped with a couple smaller ones and I was wondering when I should seperate them for room. If seperation is required how do I go about seperating them into another area for room without harming the plant because they have delicate roots it seems.

Theres only about 2-3 altogether that are grouped.

avoid seperating whenever possible, it usualy ends up killing the plants.
people dont usualy separate either, they just weed out the weaker plants.
