OK these jars have some slimy looking stuff in them, I'm starting to think its bacteria. The jars do have a bit of a sweet smell, kinda indescribable, but not unfamiliar. well the pics say it all, I finally figured out the macro feature

Its the slimy lookin stuff, I gotta toss these jars dont I?

Probably could have been tossed a week ago. Now you know what to look for. It starts out as just a small ring around where the grains touch the glass. It grows into . . . . that. RR

Thanks for the response guys! Will pressure cooking the jars before cleaning kill everything so I can safely empty them without spreading spores all over that will contam my future grows? Ive always done this for the mean green, but never encountered wet spot before.

good ole bacillus. I used to have big time problems with that shit. Up your pc time to 90 mins at 15 psi.
Also let the grain drain for a bit longer before the pc.

You can just dump it out. I'd flush it down the toilet or take out the trash right away though, cuz it stinks. With molds, definitely PC or just toss out the whole jar, but don't open in your house. Bacteria isn't as bad. You exhale bacteria with every breath. RR

I've always wondered about this, I was hoping you could shed some light on the situation. If you have contam jars, green mold lets say, does pressure cooking for 90 min kill the mold and its spores? seems to me like it would but thats just a guess

An hour would be plenty for green molds. Molds and their spores are killed easily in the pc. Even a simple pasteurization kills off the molds. The long pc time is to get the bacterial endospores. As for dumping out bacteria contaminated jars, I just hold them over the toilet and cut the stuff out with a knife. Hold your breath, they stink. RR
