Timothy Straw as a substrate
    #5687205 -

I just read ShroomGod's Straw Tec and saw he suggested wheat straw. I was wondering if Timothy Hay would work too?

* Crude Protein min 7.00%
* Crude Fat min 1.50%
* Crude Fiber max 32.00%
* Moisture max 15.00%

Anyone have any thoughts/experience with this as a substrate?

Please trust me, don't do it. Tried it three times and it never worked. The hay is just too slimy for the mycelium to colonize. Every time I've tried to use it, I've lost it to cobweb, trich, and/or verticillium. Just order some dehydrated Tenn Stud (you'll get more for your money) and hydrate and pasteurize that shit. (ha ha)
